Time to stock up on those Forever stamps.
The first-class price goes up 1 penny on May 12th!It's not a whole lot, but if you're anything like me it's worth picking up a few stacks. It really chaps my hide (who says that anymore?!) when I have to venture out to the post office just to pick up a 1/2/3 cent stamp...i'm not the smartest man around, but i'm pretty sure my time is worth more than that!
Plus, the worst part about all these hikes is actually remembering what the normal rate IS these days. It would be pretty embarrasing to get all of your mail sent back to you, and then have to re-pay for more stamps, only to get them back in the mail again! So the fact that they have these "forever" stamps now makes a world of difference. I love you, inventor of these stamps - thank you!
At any rate (no pun intended), the hike is still a couple weeks away, but thought you might enjoy the friendly reminder now while you can still do something about it. Just don't go overboard like all of these people: (from msnbc)

I agree, i love the forever stamps. i only bought one book, because I hardly ever use stamps (I use online bill pay whenever possible).
And I still have 1 little .39 cent stamp hanging around...
We get free postage at work! Yeah! But like you stacking pennies, I still have 1 .39 left. Maybe I'll have to use it on a postcard!

I've no confidence that the USPS will honor the forever stamps in the long run. They may at some point decide they are losing too much money and announce that the stamps will not be honored.
Let me just say your smarter than me because I didn't even know that you could use those after the increase! I think I'm going to go buy some now that you mentioned that! Definitely NOT 30 million, but a few.

We're probably better off putting our money into savings than stocking up on those stamps.
We had the Permanent stamp in Canada in November 2006... rates went up by 1 cent in January 2007 and I don't remember a huge increase in stamps sold so people could save 1 cent/stamp. Even on a roll of 100 you'd just save $1.00...
But we see folks every day spending money to "save" money...
