10 Reasons to be "cool" and make your own cards.
As you can tell from that sexy doodle to the left, I like to make my own cards to send out ;)And I like to think those on the receiving end enjoy them just as much! Who WOULDN'T want a personally crafted note from their friend or family member?
Whether you're sending a thank you note, a miss you card, or even a birthday card, making it yourself shoots you right onto the awesome list. But don't take my word for it -
Here are 10 good reasons to help convince you:
- Making your own cards cost you nada, zilch, absolutely zero George Washingtons.
- Making your own cards are "cooler" than sending a store card.
- Making your own card is faster. No driving, searching, and ringing up needed - it only takes 5-10 minutes, depending on your craftiness.
- Making your own card allows you to be a kid again and get creative.
- You can make your own card at work while on a break (or not on a break).
- You can show off your penmanship. (only a plus if you have impeccable skill)
- You only need 1 piece of paper, and 1 pen. (or a couple pieces of paper and a couple of pens, if you are a fancy pants. allow more than 10 mins in this case)
- The receiver will be *shocked* by getting something hand-written these days!
- The receiver will believe you spent quality time on them. (they will believe anything in the state of shock)
- The receiver will actually READ all of it's content. (those 6 paragraph poems never get read...)
- *Bonus* The receiver will love you, adding you to the top of their list!
ps: i have had wayyyyy too much coffee today!

I've got no drawing skill whatsoever, but everyone loves my trademark construction paper cards!!! (Not everyone gets them though, so those who get them KNOW they're special! They actually take a good chunk of time to make.)
Love the last line..."Don't be a 'tard, Make your own card." LOL
That is one sexy doodle!
I should totally do this. Usually I just don't do any sort of card because I HATE spending 3 or 4 bucks in addition to a present.
I'm a poet, and i didn't even know it! ahhhh, 3rd grade all over again.
Yeah, sometimes i don't feel like getting a gift OR a card...so i make my gift, the card ;) i feel like if you put something in it too, like a picture, it "counts".
After paying $4.00 for a Hallmark the other day I am completely on board with this one! My grandfather has made his own cards using his own photographs as the front cover for years - I should follow his frugal lead!
LOL - for your sake, perhaps you should try decaf. but for my own personal entertainment, please don't try decaf.
Also, making your own cards is REALLY the way to go.
I tend towards that as well. Because frankly, most cards don't say what I want them to say. And they want a lot of money for something that the person may never even look at again. Occasionally I'll find a meaningful card in a store.
Makes me think of Seinfeld, but I don't know the exact quote/episode.
Stacking Pennies comment made me laugh.
I was just invited to a card making class hosted by a friend of mine who started a home business to make some extra money... hmm... coincidence.
I love to make things for my friends and family.
Oooooh photographs and card-making classes! You guys are hip to the game already :)
And you know i couldn't stay off the caffeine even if i tried StackingPennies. So let the craziness continue!
Go ahead and buy the craft supplies if it makes you happy.
Speaking from experience ... If you get some basic / generic designs that are appropriate to multiple occasions, well, then you'll get a lot of mileage out of them.
I love this idea. Wanna write a guest post for my crafty blog (and link back to your site in the author's section, of course)??
if so, write me at
