My Financial Vice is not from Miami...so where, then?

you are mine - bananaNickel posed a great question the other day asking "What is your biggest financial vice?" His was eating out 3-4 times a week for lunch, and it seemed the same for many of the other commenters as well. Although my favorite so far is the gambler who lost $20k last year (ouch) - that's definitely a vice alright! But who doesn't love Texas Hold'Em?

So here i am trying to figure out my own biggest vice, and for once in my life i can't place it! I seriously don't spend my money as crazily as i used to. If you were to ask me 6 months ago, I would have no problem coming up with them - TJ Maxx addiction, Eating lunch out 5x week, and lottery tickets to name a few.

The biggest, however, would have been my sporadic splurging! I can't remember all of them, but I'd say i had at LEAST 4 big ones last year. As i mentioned in my ode to splurging article the other week, this included a little bling action & a little electronic action. I'd never take them back (i love those presents to myself!), but i sure as hell haven't splurged this year.

But what about now? Where do my naughty George Washingtons go? Well, if i had to choose one, and you know i do, i'm gonna have to go with Expensive Bananas. That's right buster, you heard me. If I have a strong hankering for one of those delicious beauties, there is no stopping me on how far i'll go to get one.

While they won't ever kill my budget, you'd be surprised at how much they go for in places. Here in DC they range from 75¢ to $1.00, depending on where you get them - a fast food joint, a street vendor, the train station, etc. Unfortunately my craving usually takes place at an airport, where i've been known to drop an entire $1.19 (gasp!).

What about you guys ? Does your financial vice beat mine?

While I used to splurge all of the time on shoes and clothes (especially when on sale!) I have cut that back quite a bit. While I still have trouble resisting a good Ann Taylor sale, my current vice is fountain Diet Coke. Even though I may have a can of diet coke or pepsi cold in the fridge at work I still go out an buy one at lunch for $1 minumum... Nothing beats that great taste. Now McDonalds has $1 fountain drinks and that's just too good to be true! ;)

Sadly mine is cigarettes. These bad boys cost me almost $7 a pack now. I need to quit but in the meantime I stopped my second biggest financial vice - soda from the vending machine - which I would spend about $2.50 a day! Now I too bring a bottle with me to work and leave it in the fridge.

Interesting topic! I don't spend much money on anything really, but I would have to say my one vice is Diet Coke!! Ugh, I really need to get better about drinking water, but I still love my Diet Coke. I do make myself drink at least one big glass of water at work before I can open a Diet Coke.

I have to agree with Kara, there really is something better about the fountain soda. :)

I spend all my money in the grocery store and Target. I recently analyzed my spending and I also seem to sign up for montly 9.99 services that I don't end up using (faxes, satellite radio, hosting....).

I think my financial vice is also my lifestyle vice: drinking. Although I don't go out to bars much anymore, the whole "drinking at home" thing still adds up! (If only I could find bottles of wine sold for the price of a banana...)

Diet coke! oh man, i totally hear you guys on that one - esp fountain ones. I actually gave up all soda for Lent last year, and to this day i still only allow myself to drink it on the weekends :)

and i can tell you it always tastes better then too! haha...

cigarettes, i can see that. that's a hardcore vice for sure :( but beer? that's a GIFT, not a VICE! haha...but yes, it does drain the pockets (btw, you should go w/ boxed wine all the way. nothing but the best for us frugal'ers!)

Target and Anne Taylor are killer too (at least the Mrs. says so on that last one).

And tom, yes once again you say words of wisdom ;) Vacations are the best times to live it up! although i must admit it's hard after being so damn frugal during all other times.

I don't think I actually have one now since we totally cut back on everything! But before we realized what a mess we were in I would say it was Dunkin Donuts coffee! Sometimes my husband and I would go there twice a day!
