One of the best $300 items we've ever bought - a new stove!
Woohoo - we're modernized! Not only is this one hella sexy stove, but it came with a hardcore discount. (did you ever doubt?)This is one of those times where i absolutely LOVE home ownership because you can do whatever your heart desires. Can you imagine if we were renting and I asked our landlord to upgrade appliances based on the way they look? shoooooooooot.
The original stove worked fine, and we usually don't like replacing things that aren't broken, but it really started to hurt our eyes. I mean, the thing was at least 15 years old! Plus, we figured it can only add value to our place especially if we want to sell it down the road.
Someone once told me to upgrade early on so you can actually enjoy it while living there.
If you make the changes right before you sell, you miss out on all the luxury your hard earned dollars just paid for. Of course, this only works if it's something you plan on doing for sure, but the root of the theory makes a lotta sense....at least when i wanna make big purchases ;)
Once we determined we wanted a newer stove, we just kept our eyes open for sales and it paid off! We originally hit up Best Buy for a different stove on sale for $399 (instead of the original $550) but as luck would have it, they were all out. We were JUST about to leave, when Mrs. Budgetsaresexy saw a lonely little guy hidden in the corner. The nerve! So as any human with a heart would do, we took a nice hard look at that price tag ($299) and we bought it ;) It was even a better model than the one we were originally looking at. And better yet, we found a small dent on the lower part of the bottom drawer....and we all know what that means - more discount! haha...10% to be exact.
So a $550 stove had turned into a $299 stove, and then again into a $270 stove. Add a little tax to it, and voila! A sexy new stove for around $300 bucks.
The hard part was trying to figure out how to wire it up (it didn't come w/ the cord or anything), and making sure to switch them out and not scuffing up our hardwood floors. Nothing some manual labor and googling couldn't fix though ;)

man... that is one sexy upgrade! and it's stainless... hello increase in home value (way more than the $300 you paid)!!
I gotta ask specifics... what brand and model number because... I want one... especially one with a small dent.
Oooh, that is a sexy little stove! And only $300? Pretty sweet deal.
wow! your new stove is beautiful!
Haha, your old stove looks like the one currently in my apartment, which was probably installed the year I was born. It works, but I definitely have stove envy right now.
I agree 100% with the advice to enjoy your home upgrades while you're living there, and I'm glad you listened! When my parents sold my childhood home a few years ago, they painstakingly painted all of the walls, replaced old doors and spotted carpets, fixed broken tiles, all of the usuall stuff to make it look presentable.... but then the place looked so good, they didn't want to leave! They had to move, but really I wish they had fixed up the place much sooner so that they could have enjoyed the fruits of their labor.
You will get a great return on the stove investment when you resell your place, and will get to enjoy it in the meantime! Congratulations on your hot purchase :)
Nice!! It's pretty. :)
Very nice, and good for you for doing it now so you can enjoy it too!
Very pretty, I'm jealous! Can't wait to buy a house so I can get one too :)
That's a great thought - enjoy the upgrades while living in the home.
I was just watching one of those Sell Your House shows on HGTV and the people spent ~$3,000 on all new stainless steel appliances only to move right away. What a waste!
Thanks everyone, we're def. sexcited! I think it's a Frigidaire FEF336EC. And maybe you could make that dent? haha....
It's really amazing just how DIFFERENT our kitchen looks now...like it totally makes it look "cool", based on that stove alone. it's really weird cuz it makes SUCH a difference, even though other parts of the kitchen are still 80's like... until i get my hands on those too, of course ;) one step at a time!
#1HB4BD & Kara - that's too bad, all that hard work :( but at least they probably sold it a lot faster.
Enjoying upgrades/remodeling now sure is the way to go though!
I should also add that because my apartment unit is older and still has Flinstone appliances, I think I pay about $600/mo less than for the similar but renovated units in my building. That's $7200 just to USE pretty shiny stuff for ONE year! NYC rents drive me nuts... GEEZ.
That is one REALLY nice stove! I'm jealous :-) [My kitchen needs a remodel soooo badly!]
ooh la la! u bought yourself a beauty there! good job on the steal of a deal!
That is a great deal on the stove. Way to go!
Love getting a good deal!
Plus the new one looks good!
Oh, I just love deals like that! How exciting.
Great idea about doing upgrades long before you move so you get a chance to enjoy them.
Nice stove, too :)
I like it! Very nice.
"Can you imagine if we were renting and I asked our landlord to upgrade appliances based on the way they look? shoooooooooot."
I actually just did this! The landlord had updated the refrigerator to a gorgeous stainless steel one but neglected the other appliances (stove, microwave, dishwasher) and the stove looked like your old one - though it was extremely dirty and did not look like it was in good working condition! He actually offered to replace it before I could comment on it - of course we said yes! Plus myself & one of my other 2 roommates are big into cooking so it felt like a necessity. (The kitchen counters are horrid tile, they look more like a floor than a countertop but one thing at a time!) At least our landlord is cool about it. :)
LOVE YOUR NEW STOVE!!!
#1HB4BD - you aren't kidding! i'd never pay extra just for shiny stuff, esp. if i'm renting. i once crammed myself into a 2 and 1/2 bedroom (the 1/2 was a room, but you had to bend down to get in it!) and 1 bathroom apt. in NYC for close to 3k/month, AND with 6 people living there! haha...never. again.
Money Maus - that is awesome!!! you've got one damn good landlord, that's for sure :)
