Have you ever gotten your paycheck in cold hard cash?

my paycheck in cash.Cuz i gotta tell you - it feels AWESOME! and not because it's payday, which is nice, but you can actually see *how much* money you're earning in the purest form. It's an incredible feeling!

I usually just deposit it right away, but w/ some of the weirdness going on here at work lately, I figured better to be safe than sorry this round.

It's not that i don't trust our company, cuz i really do, but it's just annoying having to worry about your check bouncing every now and then. For once i wanted to know 100% that i have the money and it's safe and sound. Plus, i was up for the adventure ;)

So, i followed a fellow co-worker to the bank where the check was issued from (that way it clears %100 and you get cash right away), paid my $5 fee for doing so (i hate banks), and out we walked full of greenbacks!

It was the first time i clearly saw my paycheck - and i was mesmerized. I couldn't believe i brought in THAT much every 2 weeks!

We all know how much we make, but there's a HUGE difference seeing it electronically over piles of cash. A slew of feelings took me over, and it went something like this (in order):
  • WOW, $1802.00 in pure cash sitting right in front of me!
  • I'm so proud of myself, that's a lot of money!
  • I wonder how many $50's are actually in there? (36)
  • Man, imagine all of the stuff i can buy with this! (i daydream for a bit...)
  • $hit, every last bit has already been budgeted for...
  • I can't believe i go through ALL THIS every 2 weeks.
  • How the hell do other people survive on much less?
  • I REALLY need to figure out a way to keep more of this.
  • How cool would it be to go 100% cash from now on and F the computer age?
  • I really hate seeing this...it'll all be gone in no time.
  • Damn, i hope no one jacks me on the way home!
My emotions really were all over the place, it's just so CRAZY how the mind interprets the money this way. I mean, it's still the SAME $1802.00, right? How can seeing it in actual dollars be that much different than seing the # up there on the screen?

I don't have the answers for you, but what i DO know is that it was quite majestic :) A feeling that has since come and gone, but a beautiful one all the same. I'm not sure if i'll try it again anytime soon - losing $5 each time and then carrying around all that money before re-depositing is pretty insane - but i'm willing to bet i'd find ways to keep more of that cash around!

Have any of you tried this? Or maybe get paid this way in your line of work ;) bow chicka, wha wha!

It's easy to lose perspective when everything is online. I've never gotten my paycheck in cash, but I could easily see going through the same feelings.

Any reason for $50's over $100's?

It used to be my custom to do this very thing each year with the last paycheck before Christmas. I'd rush to the bank, cash it out, then take the Metro to the Pentagon City Mall here in DC. If what my family/friends wanted for Christmas wasn't at that mall, they didn't get it. No shopping before or after. I left the mall in a cab piled high with shopping bags, feeling like a queen for a day, and wrapped presents like Mrs. Claus all night long. It was majestic, spendiferous, luxurious and FUN! And if that's not an Xmas budget, I don't know what is.

Nev-ah! It's not like I make that much now but it's been straight checks ever since I started working real jobs. Back in the good ole high school days, though, I would cash my checks and keep it on hand for spending. Yay!

Nearly all of my massage clients pay me in cash, and it goes into my little fireproof locked box at the end of each day. Even though I've gotten over the dazzle of looking at $2000 in twenties, every now and then when I have a HUGE moneymaking day, it's still fun to look at the messy pile of assorted bills and feeling valued, successful, and heck, a little bit rich.

Way back in my highschool days I worked in a bank - holding hundreds of thousands of dollars. sadly, working with that amount of cash on a daily basis really loses its spark (well..okay only because it was not my hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash)

eventually it got disgusting and you would keep economy size jars of sanitizer near by - people do some NASTY things with money...the stories...

That was an exciting post though! I loved the thoughts...totally what I would think too! Go J. Money!!!

Nope, never been paid in cash - always checks. I'm not sure what the largest amount of money (cash) I have ever held is... maybe $1,000 or so? (Well, more than that when I worked retail or did the cash drawer at charity events, but that isn't my money so it doesn't count.)

I have to say, I LOOOOOOOOOOVE electronic checking and doing all my bills online, but maybe someday when things aren't so hectic, I could take it in cash - just for fun!

Other than odd jobs (like babysitting) I've never been paid in cash. I think I'd go from WOW to damn I don't get robbed in about 3 seconds.

So if you got your paycheck in cash form...would you then have to change the term to paycash? Paybills? Paydolla-dollas? :)

I think it makes cents! (Yay puns)

Cough. Heyyy that's about how much cash I see... every 3 or 4 months. I hate banks as well. Especially Chase (I say that every chance possible). I'd be terrified of getting robbed if I did that, honestly.

Getting paid in cash is sweet but if if happens to someone that doesn't practise strong self discipline then they are doomed. You must be able to properly budget out the whole amount, no matter how high or low it is. If you don't account for the money then who knows where it will end up.

Since I've had full-time jobs, I've always had direct deposit, but I used to love cashing paychecks for people when I worked at a credit union. It always made them so happy that we didn't charge fees. (High five for credit unions!)

That's a lot of money for 2 weeks worth of working, that is worth ten times as much to a student like me. But the thought of carrying that kind of cash around is bit scary to me especially in this kind of economy since you are not really sure people will do.

LOL! Reminds me of the time I asked the ex- what he wanted for Christmas. Like everyone who has everything, he hadn't the faintest, so he said, "Money."

The payday before Christmas, I cashed out my paycheck in dollar bills, put them all in a box, wrapped it in Christmas foil, and that was his Christmas present. (Well...one of them.)

After that, he started saying he wanted land for Christmas.
