Would You Rather...Be UGLY and rich, or HOT w/ less?
It's been 57 days since my last "would you rather", and I have missed 'em dearly. So not only do we bring 'em back today, but we reach into the classics and pull out a favorite!We go all the way back to ancient times when Old Babylon was ruled all of the lands...or not, i'm not entirely sure. I don't even know if Babylon was even a real place? I've been reading "The Richest Man in Babylon
" lately and it's freakin' awesome - soooo many great lesssons! I really can't wait to talk about it, but that comes a bit later....Back to the point here - the whole "looks vs money" debate has been going on for ages. And since I don't recall writing much about it myself, I thought it was about time. Plus, I had asked it via an interview over at A Gai Shan Life last month but it's still not outta my system yet. So let's give it another go and see what we can drum up here. This is today's Would You Rather:
"Would you rather be attractive as hell BUT you never make more than $30k a year for the rest of your life? Orrrrrrr, you're pretty damn ugly BUT you're as rich as Oprah Winfrey?"Now, you have to think long and hard on this one (at least i do). Being attractive certainly has its perks: More opportunities to meet hotties of the opposite sex, better possibilities of getting great jobs, getting into more parties, getting away with more stuff (or so i'm told), etc, etc. BUT, if you're never gonna make more than $30k, it kinda limits your benefits here.
On the other hand, being rich as balls and being able to help out thousands of people around the world, not to mention your own friends and family (and SELF for that matter), is crazy sexy! But having a repulsive stature sure wouldn't be fun :( We're not talking about so-so looking, or "average" either - just plain ol' butt ugly, whatever that means to you.
As always, since I asketh thee, i shall also answereth thee. While I wish I could take the middle-road and just go w/ an average joe w/ average money, that is not one of the answers. Sooo, I will be 100% honest and look like a total d-head here - I would pick being HOT over Rich :) Money is awesome for a number of reasons already mentioned, but I could get by on $30k if i had to - I'm already frugal as hell! It would suck not being able to provide for my family as much as I'd like to, but we'd manage. Plus, I could still donate my time to places and still give back to the community, right?
So what about you? Take the looks and run, or suck it up and be rich!

I'd be rich. That's assuming I can still have all my friends that I have now. NO, I don't mean friends with benefits! I've already been married and while the opposite sex is nice, I would love to be able to throw myself into charitable works, help out my friends and family. They give me all the love I need.
Could I take the money and then get plastic surgery?
Too easy my friend. Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy you the best trainers, dietitians, and plastic surgery.
Such a great question! I didn't have to think that long though I would certainly be rich! In the love and affection department there is always someone for everyone...every pot has it's lid! Therefore, I don't think being ugly leaves you alone the rest of your life! Although it's nice to have people find you sexy, being secure in your finances is a number one priority for me!
Could I be mildly attractive somewhere in the middle?
I'm going to have to go with the money... I'd love to be independently wealthy and make my "job" charities and the like. It's basically my dream. Also, second the weakonomist's comment.

I went to Jiffy Lube a few weeks ago because I thought my tires might be low on air. I told them right away that I wasn't going to buy any services - I just hoped someone could check my tires. About six men ran outside, and this was on a day so cold they kept the garage door closed and they all wore winterized jumpsuits. I batted my eyelashes like Bugs Bunny when he's dressed up like a Southern belle and said, "Would you do a favor for little ole me?" (OK, I didn't say that.)
I guess it took five guys to supervise the one guy putting air in the my tires! It's hard to believe they were so intersted in my dinged-up '99 Suzuki wagon!
I'd rather be hot as hell. As much as I would love to be wealthy, I don’t think I can get passed the ugly part. Plastic surgery is not miracle and can make matters worse.
Take the looks and run!
This is tough. Because neither thing is something that I find overly important. That said, I'll have to go with the money. Looks aren't everything and don't guarantee you'll be happy. Money doesn't guarantee happiness either, but I think that at the very least, I could give a lot of my money to charitable organizations and feel good about myself and what I'm able to do for others. And I could pay for my kids' educations and their kids educations. I could be a foster parent and adopt kids who are struggling to find homes. I think knowing that I was able to do that much for others would be so much more rewarding than just looking good.
Oh my....what a dilemma! I'll take "I wanna be hot" for a million...err, I guess 30K. Now for that sugar daddy...takers anyone?
LOL... I agree with Sharon.. I'd take the hotness! Who cares what you make, if your that hot, you can marry someone rich!
If I had to choose I'd be Oprah Winfrey rich, hands down! You could always just have fab clothes.
While looks do fade with time, I am afraid I have to be even more shallow and say "hot."
Though studies have shown at times that better looking people get jobs/raises/etc more often. So are you sure the two don't go hand in hand?
Hmmmm.... the post was quite interesting and the comments as well. I was swayed both ways multiple times, but I think I'm going to go with rich. No, hot. Wait... rich. Boy, I dunno.... rich? Hot?
Rich and ugly, of course. Have you seen Ron Jeremy? Not sure if he's actually rich, but being ugly sure doesn't seem to matter!
I would rather be rich for sure...Its like when you meet someone that you think is good looking and then they just suck as a person. Then you meet someone that doesn't really catch your attention and you talk with them and next thing you know they are the best looking in the room.
I believe it you keep it real than people just see beyond looks. Being rich you can make a dent in the world with charitable gifts and such that will go along way.
I'm thinking ugly & rich. By being rich, one's ugliness is not as ugly as being poor. You can make yourself up to look "average" or get plastic surgery. While being hot & poor, I'd have to succumb to being a gold digger and I'm not one. :)
I'd pick rich and poor because you can always try harder to make money. Being ugly and rich, no mater what you do your still ugly.

In this situation (as usually this question is money or love) money or being hot its gonna have to be hot because being hot means you are more likely to get your own way, free things and support. However I would like to make money still, it is still important but then if you are hot there are loads of ways to make money.
Easy question for me. Show me the money! Looks don't last forever. And with a lot of money, I can work on the looks. And I'd have plenty of FREE TIME, because I wouldn't have to WORK!
Now I have to go shower and get ready for (sigh) work. I think I'm going to buy a lottery ticket and a cheap bottle of wine on the way home.

Rich. Definately. I could be a rich crazy cat lady. I'd have a ginormous mansion and leave my fortune to my cats when I died. Maybe I'd build my mansion out of an old pirate wrecks and make jaunty scarves and pirate hats for all my kitties. They'd be a pirate cat army!!
The interesting thing is that in both situations you'd have to watch out for people who would use you. Either for your hotness or your money.
What would bother me most about choosing the hotness is you'd not only be poor but by never being able to make for than 30K you're accepting a lifetime of limitations just to look pretty. If you're ugly but rich you might still encounter limitations, but you'd still have the chance to overcome them through hard work (and tossing your money around).
I'd rather be hot as hell. Then I can marry one of you ugly guys who is as rich as Oprah. :)

I'll sign up for ugly and rich. :) Just because I'm ugly doesn't mean I don't have a fabulous personality. Take Jay-Z for example. Back in the day he wasn't so attractive. His weird shaped head and big lips. Now he possesses so much swagger and a magnetic personality, you can't help but be drawn to him. Next thing you know, you're muttering under your breath: "He's kinda cute now..."
So, ummm... yea... ugly and rich please!

I already survive on a $32k salary and I have a good savings account and some travel money. It's doable and money isn't everything. Besides, realistically speaking, being hot probably wouldn't keep you at $30k anyway. Eventually that glass ceiling would be shattered.
Total Hottie because being a hot woman you can land a rich guy. Okay so I'm showing my true bias.
