5 Things I'll be Blowing my Money on this Boy's Weekend.
Hello my Budgety friends! Today is the start of boy's weekend in New Orleans and I can already feel the dollars burning a whole in my pockets ;) I'd like to tell you I'll be saving them all and keeping a frugally low profile this weekend, but I already know it's just not happening.You see, some days I just let myself go and do whatever I wish w/out worrying about money for the time being. Kinda like that whole "convenience tax" idea where you pay a little extra for something cuz it's quick and *there*, but you just let it slide and go about your way enjoying life as normal. And for some reason, it makes me feel all VIP like too! I'd never go crazy and pickup $200 jeans or $500 bottles of rum or anything like that, but I do let myself spend more freely during these weekends.
Here are 5 things I'll be blowing money on:
- Checking in baggage - I know I'm a guy and should therefore be able to just throw things into a backpack or something, but I'm too "Metro" for that. I like to take way more than necessary so I have options. Plus, I hate lugging bags all around so I'll happily pay that $15/each way.
- Airport food & coffee - My favorite part of traveling! Starbucks, donuts, pizza, all while waiting for our flight? Freakin' love it. Don't love the $50 price tag of course, but what happens on vacations stay on vacations ;)
- Taxis - If there's one thing i hate dropping money on, it's taxis. I will walk miles to get somewhere if it saves me a buck or two (and the weather is nice), but when you're on vacay you have a limited amount of time. So if $12 means an extra hour of extended debauchery - I'm on it.
- Group Dinners - The key here being, "wherever the group wants to go". When I plan them we go somewhere on the cheaper side, but we def. have some refined gentlemen amongst us at times. So if they want to chow down on $40 plates, then I shall follow suite and not say a peep.
- Souvenirs - I'm such a hag when it comes to magnets or even maps! I dream about having a room wallpapered in maps of all the places i've visited over the years. Love it.
- Alcohol - Probably the one consistent thing we all like to save money on! Pounding Miller Lights before we hit the bar scene. Not only does this sharpen our card playing skills, but it also allows for proper "bonding" and saves us a butt load by the time we hit the bars!
- Hotel Room - We would cram 10 guys into a room if we could get away with it. Enough said.
- Daytime Adventures - This usually consists of exploring around town and chatting about the good ol' college days. We rarely go see something specific like a play or an exhibit of some sort, so we save a lot of money by just walking around and goofing off.

I am totally with you on checking luggage. I always do it for extended trips. I hate the fee, but I also hate lugging things around. I also LOVE airport food - it is so terrible and fat laden - totally descendant, totally vacation.
Hope you have a BLAST!
You don't have to spend a lot of money to sight see.... go down to Jackson Square and you can spend hours just watching the street entertainers, or for like 20 bucks per person, you can take a carriage tour of the French Quarter, hitting all the "important" places. And by important, I do include Pat O's in that category.... They stop so you can get yourself a hurricane. Yum yum!
Depending on where you are staying in New Orleans, you may not even need to take a cab... if you are already downtown you can walk and there are street cars abounding from all directions.
Laissez Bon Temps Roule!
Have fun! New Orleans is AWESOME!
My back doesn't allow for me to lug bags around so checking in baggage is a must.
Using cabs especially if you're drinking, and/or alone at night is another requirement of mine.
Hope you're having fun!
Haha...man, you crack me up J.Money, that boys night out application is hilarious! Just remember this...

Dude, we crammed ourselves into one hotel room right on the French Quarter so there was no need for cabs. If you did that, forgo the cabs and walk around, the sights themselves are worth the walk! Also, take the trolley...cheaper.
When we went, we had a blast and I didn't spend very much at all...um, of course, I'm a girl so it was easier to get free drinks...hehehe. Still, you seem to have a plan of action for saving on drinks, so good for you! Hope you have fun!
@Dawn - Can you believe they actually lost my bag on the return? first time in my 29 years of traveling...i think my boy jinxed me when he was hating on voodoo while we were waiting for it ;) I must admit though, Northwest sure is fast! I woke up this morning w/ my bag on my front porch. I was without it for less than 12 hours - pretty damn good!
@Brandi - Thanks! It sure was...although now I have to recover ;)
@Pauper Princess - Oh yeah for sure! We stayed right downtown and walked everyyyyyyyywhere - it was awesome. Got burned a little (that sun is a lot stronger there!) but the whole weekend was a blast. Do you live around there by any chance? If so, the next time I'm there i'll hit ya up and we can grab a coffee or something :) I have a feeling we'll go back next year.
@Sandra - Thanks! And I agree.
@Carla - Oh yeah, if I were a girl i'd ALWAYS take cab...lots of crazies out there (esp in New Orleans)
@Atlas@mymoneyshrugged - Haha...if only i could be as funny as Mr. Chappelle ;) I miss that guy.
@Kristy @ Master Your Card - You got that right, and it's pretty much exactly what we did too! Except for the not spending money on beer part...after a while you just stop caring about those dollars leaving your pockets. Esp when there's bull riding and live music all over the place! A lovely time was def. had.
Haha great work, I think the Budgets Are Sexy crowd is waiting to see this pictures from the weekend? Twitpic is not sufficient!
You know, I would but I *accidentally forgot* to take 'em ;) Those twitpics were the only ones I caught via my celly cell. Maybe next year....mmmmm...again...
Oh, man! I wish I had known you were coming to visit! Before you leave next time, or if you read this while you are still there, e-mail me, and I can tell you where to grab some savings and some great but cheap places to eat!

I'm a complete sucker for cabs. I just can't seem to control spending when it comes to convenience of getting from one place to another the quickest and easiest way. ;(
@one frugal lady - sure will!
@Amanda, Bay Area Photographer - i know, i suck at that too sometimes. not if it's sunny out and i have no place to be, but def. when i'm drinking. and it's nasty and wet out :)
