Dear Shopping Malls, Best Buy, Target - I miss you...

Dear Shopping...Ever since I gave you guys up a while back, things just haven't been the same. Call me a little girl, but I miss you guys! Remember when I'd wake up all giddy and full of coffee just waiting to shop? Or when I was so bored that only YOU, my best friends in the whole world, could cure me of my malaise? I really hope you're doing well w/out me.

While I'm a bit saddened by our prolonged silence, you'll be happy to know that the Mrs. and I are doing quite well. I've been filling my time blogging about personal finance over here (a little bit about shopping too, don't you worry), and the Mrs. just finished out her first year of grad school! Can you believe she pulled straight A's? It's all quite exciting, let me tell you.

What's more, our savings have grown quite stupendously and we no longer have any more credit card debt! You see, what I've come to realize over these past 2 years is that I can shop at my own pace without *needing* to shop. It's not as fun as the olden days, but it sure makes for a more peaceful lifestyle. If only you could see how stress-free we are now!

I do miss you all terribly though, and we promise to come visit soon. I wanna hear all about your new products and sales going on! Are you all surviving this economy okay? I really do hope so. Well, I better go and drop this in the mail now friends. We miss you, we love you, and we can't wait to see you all again! Don't forget about us over here...

Your old-time pal,

PS: Do you remember our dear friend Holly? Well, you guys lost the bet - she survived an entire year without shopping one single time! How crazy is that? Please be sure to send her your congratulations, you know how hard that must have been for her.

I freaked out when my new bf wanted to go to Home Depot just to get a key made. I mean those ginourmous places are like big old spending money traps. I forced my point a little and a few dollars and minutes later, the local hardware store did it. I basked in the glory of being right. Good for you J, and for Holly too!

HaHa... hilarious.

The only time I go to a "real" store is when I find a coupon on Slickdeals and can get the product for less than I can online.

And that is REAL impressive about Holly.

That is too funny! I miss Cost Plus and Target. I used to go there every weekend. My credit cards miss them too!

I could write a similar letter to my favorite bookstores and Zappos.com. How I miss them! Oh, and dining out a couple times a week, I miss that too. *sniff*

I (try to) limit my Target runs to cat food and cat litter -- they have some great deals there, plus their own coupons. No, I'm not a crazy cat lady, I only have two ;)

OOOhhhhh TARGET! I love that place!! I don't know how you can completely refrain from going in there I know I can't! But I have cut back.... a LOT! I envy Holly for being able to make it an entire year and not shop. I wish I could get up the gall to take on a challenge like that! Maybe one day..... *sigh*

Target is also a place I miss... and Ikea. I'm sure there's a similar "Ode to Ikea" written by my own credit cards!

Very entertaining post J! I too remember the days of dropping $200 on any given shopping day. We miss it too, and Target is one of our favorite stores. A clean Super Walmart used to get a lot of our money too with all of the deals to be had. Now a days we find ourselves much happier with less worry and stress, so there is something to be said for the change.

Thanks for reminding us just how much better we have become financially since giving up the constant accumulation of stuff. I was starting to wonder where you went to!

Way to have the will power, I have been working on mine to buy more discounted or used but haven't fully stopped shopping 100% as I should.

Deal Fanatic - Thank ya much ;) I had fun with this one....and i really do MISS shopping too - man, sucks sometimes.
Nicole - Oh yeah, Home Depot sucks us guys in like no other....they're sorta like strip clubs, except you actually GET something to come home with ;) at least, from what people tell me.
MLR - Yes, Holly is killer, freakin' love that dedication.
Moving on up! - Credit Cards do miss that stuff, but they get over it eventually!
Dawn - Yeah Zappos is awesome. never shopped their personally, but they keep getting mad awards for customer service and just being an overall GOOD store. One day you'll be able to shop there again - with a fatty bank account as well ;)
Jehzeel Laurente - 3 Months is wonderful, congrats!
RainyDaySaver - Cat lady! haha...isn't that bad when people start talking about multiple cats that we assume their crazy like that? just another reason i'm glad i'm a guy...whenever i say i have 2 cats i get the "awwww" before anything else.
MK - Try it out for 1 months straight (no shopping at all except for true necessities). I swear it'll be easier as time goes on!
Ms. MoneyChat - :)
Broke Diva in DC - IKEA!!!! Yes, wow i can't believe i've forgotten all about them. that just goes to show it's been a looooong time - that used to be my 2nd most visited place after Best Buy. Dang, i need hit it up again soon. And btw, you should come out to one of our blogger happy hours sometimes since you're in the city. Holler if you're interested.
Enemy of Debt - You put it perfectly: "giving up the constant accumulation of stuff". I had no idea how easy it was to pick up random things that i really didn't care about in the long run. less stuff DOES equal less stress for sure :)
@craig - You should give it a shot for 30 days too! And I'll even dare you :) Start tomorrow and end on our next happy hour. If you can do it, i'll buy you dinner! but if you can't, then you buy me beer. hehe...
