Financial Mad Libs! Are You Down?

Financial Mad LibWhy hello there, and welcome to my blog. Today I offer you the chance to travel back circa 6th grade and divulge the secrets of being YOU. In other words, it's time for a rousing game of Financial Mad Libs! (crowd goes wild) If you haven't seen the start of it over at Punch Debt In The Face, I highly recommend checking it out - everyone's doing it.

So sit back, relax, and get ready for some crazy awesome mad-libbing! It may sound a little silly at first (because it is), but you just might learn something today. At the very least, you figured out a way to waste even more time @ work ;)

Financial Mad Lib: J. Money

Hi my name is J. Money. I currently have 17 dollars in my wallet. When I started managing my finances I was worth $58,769.65, and now have a net worth of $95,149.11. I currently work for a start-up and have been doing it for 6 years. I make roughly $80,000 per year. I want to have $1 Million waiting for me when it comes time to retire. Aside from learning about finances, I really enjoy flying to new places. I think the world would be a better place if idiots didn't exist. I had a chicken quesadilla for dinner last night and it was bar food. I have had 10 significant others over the course of my lifetime (counting awkward middle school relationships). One thing that makes me different is that I smell my food & drinks before I consume them. Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to get back to work before I get caught.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what do you say there, up for the challenge? You don't have to fill out all the blanks if you don't want to, but the more you do the more refreshing it feels (& you can always go anonymous!). Just be sure to drop it in the comments or link back when you're finished so we can check it out :) Thx again debt ninja!

I currently work customer support for an accounting services company and have been doing it for two years. I make roughly $53K per year. I want to have an amount of money unmeasurable by currently accepting accounting practices waiting for me when it comes time to retire. Aside from learning about finances, I really enjoy playing music. I think the world would be a better place if dangerous drivers didn't exist. I had a sandwich for dinner last night and it was unremarkable. I have had I forgot the number on purpose significant others over the course of my lifetime (counting awkward middle school relationships). One thing that makes me different is sleeping standing up, like a horse. Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to hit "post comment.".

I think the world would be a better place if politicians didn't exist. I had tacos for dinner last night and it was absolutely delicious. I have had too many significant others over the course of my lifetime (counting awkward middle school relationships). One thing that makes me different is I have twin girls (although twins are becoming more common). Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to get back to work.

Hi my name is Atlas. I currently have 12 dollars in my wallet. When I started managing my finances I was worth 5k, and now have a net worth of around 30k. I currently work in advertising and have been doing it for a few years. I make roughly enough pennies to cover 4,331,250 square inches per year. I want to have enough to enjoy life waiting for me when it comes time to retire. Aside from learning about finances, I really enjoy economics/government intervention and how it effects our personal finances. I think the world would be a better place if politicians didn't exist. I had veggie burger for dinner last night and it was alright, I guess. I have had few significant others over the course of my lifetime (counting awkward middle school relationships). One thing that makes me different is I've learned to ball out on a budget. Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to eat my lunch that I packed last night.

One thing that makes me different is I'm directly responsible for the welfare of over 100 employees. Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to get back to work.

My name is "Jim". I currently have nothing in my wallet. When I started managing my finances I was worth $350,000 and now I have a net worth of 1.2 million. I am a outside sales rep and have been doing it for 1 year. I make roughly 180,000 per year plus significant bonuses and hope to have 5 million dollars by age 40. I enjoy my pets, reading, financial modeling and blowing the money I saved on Mac-n-cheese on expensive wine and fine dining. I think that the world would be a better place if extreme people weren't dogmatic or prone to voice their opinions. I've had one significant other, my wife, and we both got our doctorates before age 30(1). One thing that makes me different is that I know (quite well) 9 languages and my wife knows 11. Now that I am done with this made lib, I think I'm going to drink Blue Moon and watch the Daily SHow.

Hi my name is W. I currently have $43 dollars in my wallet. When I started managing my finances I was worth $127,000, and now have a net worth of -$20,000. I currently own an ecommerce startup and have been doing it for 2 years. I make zero income per year (everything reinvested). I want to have $3 million waiting for me when it comes time to retire. Aside from learning about finances, I really enjoy (blank). I think the world would be a better place if poverty didn't exist. I had grilled chicken for dinner last night and it was great. I have had only one significant other over the course of my lifetime (not counting awkward middle school relationships). One thing that makes me different is my diverse interests. Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to work more on business development.

I just wanted to put my $0.02 in to show that just because you actively manage your money, does not mean that you always make good decisions. Will be selling the business soon, which will hopefully right the numbers above.

Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to continue working.

The only reason I am in more debt than before is because I got married! Husbands tend to carry some baggage with them, and sometimes that baggage is debt! We'll be debt free soon enough though!

Look at all this financial goodness!!!! I am impressed. It's one thing to list that you make $30k or $150k, but it's another to be so open about it and share a snapshot of your finances with all of us - THANK YOU! We're all on the same path to happiness here ;)

Some responses:
@444 - Know what's even scarier? Sleeping while standing up with dangerous drivers around you :) Glad to see another customer service person on here too.
@Lynn - WOW that's a turnaround, good for you guys! And I swear I'd be one happy dad if I got twins, esp girls....I'm pretty sure I'd spoil them.
@Atlas@mymoneyshrugged - That's a lot of inches - too much for me to try and figure out what it is in feet ;) btw, I saw that book your name was based off of - "Atlas Shrugged" right? It's in this old school bookstore here in DC in a glass case with some others...I didn't check, but it must be signed or a first print or something....also, when i googled it just now i saw a movie coming out!!! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480239/
@Dad - 6 kids, man what a blessing and a handful. While it sucks that you're at a dead-end job, at least you KNOW that you are. The next step is to figure out how to get into something better :) I'm sure you'll work it out though...and yes, keep on budgeting my good friend!
@Hank - Ooooooh I *hate* micro-managers too. If you give me responsibility and a deadline, then it'll get done properly - no need to hover over my shoulders and help me do a job, that's why you're paying me! And if I suck then fire me and hire someone better. No point in wasting everyone's time and money. Damn, you've got me all fired up now ;) Great use of the mad lib...
@T. Nickel - If you kill all the worms what are birds going to eat? ;) It actually reminds me of a quote I once heard on that show "Wings" (remember that?) - "If dogs sweat from their tongues, what are their armpits for?" haha...good times, good times.
@Christine - $5k to $118k off of $40k? Hot damn girl you're on fire! That's some savvy money management if I've ever heard any. You should market that knowledge out along w/ the "Fun Cooker!"
@Anonymous #1 - Haha, very nice. A man who knows what he wants! If you're ever up for sharing how you put aside that $1.2 mil (and where it's all invested), do holler. I'm sure a few of us would like to learn from someone who's done for a change over those who WANT to do it. aka me ;) Although I'm pretty sure I'll get there at some point...
@Anonymous #2 - Point taken! My same offer goes out to you - if you're ever up for guest posting and sharing more of these nuggets of yours we'd love to listen. In the meantime I hope you sell that biz off and get working on the next one you have up your sleeve ;) All the greatest inventors/business men fail before they hit it big!
@LuLu - Well then it'll be an interesting experience if we ever eat together :) Perhaps in St. Lucia sometime?
@Mrs. Dietz - Awwww, well at least you have a good foundation of what it takes to BE debt-free! I guess love conquers all ;)
@JB - Good for you JB, keep reading and consuming all that you can. I stopped reading for 15+ years (except for school work) and I'm really glad to be back to it again. While I tend to use the same words all the time, I do actually learn some new ones from books! And the 5 or 6 finance books I've read this last year has only improved my outlook on life. So cheers to reading!

Hi my name is (Kaitlyn) . I currently have ($0) dollars in my wallet (because if I carry cash I spend it and can't track it). When I started managing my finances I was worth ($1700) [which is the worth of just my car], and now have a net worth of ($6008.03). I currently work (at a tele-messaging firm) and have been doing it for (blank) 5 MONTHS. I make roughly ($22,000) per year. I want to have (let me open up my IRA and 401k before you make me start talking numbers like this) waiting for me when it comes time to retire. Aside from learning about finances, I really enjoy (blogging, writing, sleeping). I think the world would be a better place if (credit cards) didn't exist. I had (fruit-- sliced pears and plums, grapes and strawberries -- and two extra sharp cheddar cheese chunks) for dinner last night and it was (so stinkin' delicious and filling). I have had (4) significant others over the course of my lifetime (NOT counting awkward middle school relationships). One thing that makes me different is (I'm freaking goofy, and I embrace it). Now that I'm done with this mad lib, I think I'm going to (watch a guilty pleasure TV show online).
