Introducing The Blogger Showdown Series!
I'm so excited I can barely keep my pants on. Starting next week, I'll be pitting two Personal Finance Bloggers against each other in what I hope will become a glorious new series at Budgetsaresexy! (If you were following me on Twitter, this is that "secret" I was jabbering about)And guess what? We've got powerhouses J.D. Roth of Get Rich Slowly, and Mr. Trent Hamm of The Simple Dollar kicking off this series in style! Hot damn! If that doesn't get you pumped up I don't know what will. But that's just the beginning. We've got a killer lineup scheduled with some of the biggest and baddest (even newest) personal finance stars around, and they aren't afraid to get dirty!
So what's this Blogger Showdown about? It's quite simple:
- 2 bloggers are picked to go head to head. (usually w/out the other one knowing)
- They're sent the same set of 10 or 11 questions.
- They shoot 'em back answered, and as honest as possible.
- I post them up side by side for a direct comparison.
- And then YOU vote for the winner!
--------------
PS: If there is anyone in particular you'd like to have showcased, or perhaps a question you've been dying to know, drop it off and I'll do my best to make it happen :)

This is a really cool idea. If you are taking requests I would love to see anything from (in no particular order)
1. Funny About Money - she cracks me up, I wish I could be her adopted grandchild, or late in life daughter
2. Early Retirement Extreme - He is the smart, mean, blunt guy that you love to hate but he is usually right, and he is extreme!
3. Shopaholly - I just love her...I don't know what else to say but she is awesome and funny and is my financial Bridget Jones
4. Savings not Shoes - again I just love her and she has struggles similar to myself
5. I Pick Up Pennies - she is super EMO but I like her and has interesting thoughts
6. Sallie's Niece - again she is just a fun person to read about and has similar struggles to myself
Lets add some female flavor with a dude thrown in for good measure!!!
Excellent idea... can't wait to read!
Cool!!! I'd be interested in competing in the showdown if you've ever got any opening! Can't wait to see it!!!!!!! Great idea!
Thanks guys!!!! I'd love to take total credit for this but I actually got the idea off a few different places around the 'net including dailyblogtips.com. But hey, it's all about taking something good and re-working it to fit your style, right? It's totally gonna be awesome, I can't wait for it to start :)
And you got it Anonymous! Thanks for adding a sentence or two on them as well - it'll help with matching up (and you're right, some of those are awesome! I already follow 75% of them)
I knew it! Can't wait to see the 1st edition. :)
Maybe you can get Ramit from I Will Teach You to Be Rich? Pair him with someone frugal for fun. :)
Dang, I thought you were pregnant
I know my blog is still on the small side, but I would love to participate in this series. If there are any available times and you would be willing to include a newer blog, let me know!
Gloves are off...I got beer muscles!
1. Whats the criteria that determines a winner? We just going with whichever one "feels" better?
2. Anyone interested in making side bets? True story. Get at me.
ohhh, I'll be tuning in on tuesday to see how this unfolds!
Ramit already challenged Trent once. I don't remember what happened - but there was a really cute picture of both of them in a boxing ring, I think.
I like it J! Count me in man!
Can I have just 25% of your brilliance? You can keep the other 75...great idea! Will look forward to reading them.
Yup, already in talks with Ramit ;) In fact, I've got something else lined up w/ him in two weeks! So keep your eyes open for it, freakin' love that guy (in a very non-gay way...not that there's anything wrong with that)
@Deuce Carter - yessir, whatever one you just liked at the end of it. Care to share your bet side gig? :)
@Punch Debt In The Face - Sorry bro, but you might wanna check w/ your mother...you might be having another brother soon! (awww snap)
@Olivia @IndependentBeginnings - You're in! it just might take me a while to get everyone paired up, so don't think I've forgotten about you if some time goes by, I won't forget.
@Brad @ enemyofdebt - I was hoping you'd say that - gonna get you a real good Credit Card lover ;)
@Atlas@mymoneyshrugged - Sure, I just steal it from around the 'net anyways! Hold on a sec, I'll go google you some....
LOL. Have to see the one with Brad. I'm not sure if a good pair for him, but maybe Master Your Card (they just upgraded their site, I see. But they have some great posts).
Looking forward to the showdown(s)!
How long will each blogger have to prepare their responses to the questions J?
Also will we be able to use pictures? Just curious. :-)
@moneyfunk - I will not disappoint you! LOL
Good idea. Too bad about the no baby thing though!
Sounds like way too much fun. I'm in if you need a newbie. Thought about having double teams or a cage match (frugals vs. not or a winner take all)?
@moneyfunk - that's EXACTLY who I was thinking about actually! haha...it's gonna be sweet.
@brad - you'll have plenty of time, at least a week or two...they're gonna be simple & nothing too intelligent don't you worry ;) I just want everyone to be themselves and have fun with it. You'll find out about the pictures next week...
@Fabulously Broke - at least you found my wife!
@Mrs. Modern Tightwad - You're in, and good thinking! I'll make a note on that one...maybe to switch it up down the road or something.
EXCELLENT!!! 'nuff said...
Just wondering who the heck you're gonna pair me with? :D
What a great idea! I would love to throw my hat in the ring if you are looking for a UK based Welterweight.
I volunteer to go up against Squawkfox!
You cease to amaze me with the stuff you always come up with. Engaging rich content is the name of the game that you are running! Good work, if I hadn't disappeared the last few weeks I woulda chimed in more!
Ramit vs Squawkfox.... Book vs Book? hahaha
Very creative idea. Let me know if you want to do a credit topic at some point. I'm sure we could get @creditmom to participate as well.
Thanks guys, I got you all down :) I like that book vs book idea as well...Gail Vaz-Oxlade - I'll have to poke around your site and get a good idea for it, thx for stopping by!
PS: If you haven't already seen it, the 1st Blogger Showdown is up! Be sure to vote for your fave.
OK I am surprised no one has said this, but I wana see you, J, paired up against someone. Maybe punchdebt since you both have similar styles and layouts. I think he takes you on the art side though, cos he learned from the best how to use photoshop...yours truly ;)
kudos on the Seinfeld reference
I'm a small time pf blogger, especially compared to the likes of you, Ramit, Trent, and others...but if you want to pair me up against another small timer (perhaps another 20-something female?) that would be sweet!
So I'd have to interview myself?! Wouldn't be the first time ;) Maybe I'll host a calling to see who wants to challenge me or something...
@graduatedlearning - I'll make a note!
This is a nice concept. I hope I could also participate in this showdown. My blog is also on the topic of personal finance. :)
I'll add it to the list :) Thx for stopping by.
