Thanks for the link love baby!

P.S. just watched that financial advisor video again and cracked up. I even sent it to a few clients :)

The fire thing is complete BS. The whole argument is that it’s a waste of time if they send firefighters to people that don’t pay, but they DID send firefighters… they just didn’t do anything. How much is the government going to end up paying now that these people have lost their home? There’s a good chance they’ll have to lean on public services like unemployment and food stamps.

Oh well. Guess it’s not my problem. They’re the one’s who are voting for assholes that make laws like this.

I wonder if they would have been charged for murder if one of those people went into the house to try to rescue something and never came back out while they just watched.

Wow I had no idea that there were still fire services that were subscription based. I thought that was done away with in the 1800s or something. Shocking.

(And thanks for the link :)

@Jeff Rose – Haha, I’m glad someone else found it as amusing as I did :) My wife thinks I’m nutso for watching it so much!
@Matt, Tao of Unfear – Oh man, I know… or if someone was already in there, like a baby or a cat or dog or some other living being. Really pisses me off everytime I hear about this… which is more frequently than I’d like :(
@Paula @ Afford Anything – Anytime my Paula friend!
@Cait – I sure did, it was a blast! :)
@Jackie – Yeah, I had no idea until the first time I saw it mentioned last year… crazy stuff, I hate it.

A lot of communities have firefighter services like this; it’s just a normal part of rural life and some areas don’t have coverage at all. Where I grew up if the firefighters responded outside the city, the home owner was responsible for paying between $3,000 and $5,000 depending on how far from the town you lived. If you were burning trash or stubble you had to call in and tell them about it being a controlled burn. If you didn’t and someone driving by called it in, you got a response and a bill.

I like how this story separates out the adults in the internet commentators. As an adult these people chose to live in a house in this area, they chose not to fund their own fire department, they chose an agreement with a neighboring community for coverage and then chose not to pay. Wow good for them, I like to see all types of people in this country it makes us more diverse.

Yeah, I agree they’re in the wrong for not paying – without a doubt – I just can’t see being the firefighter and driving out there and then just literally standing there and watching it burn to the ground. Legally and business-wise, they’re acting as they’re supposed to. But morally? I just don’t buy it. I think there’s a time when you have to be human vs. a company employee. Same thing when people are dying in hospitals and they don’t have insurance and so they’re not helped. Just hard to believe people will let them be… (extreme case, of course, but you get what i’m saying). This world def. takes all kinds though, you’re right.
