Something To Inspire You Today :)

You should probably be outside right now enjoying the holiday and hanging out with friends, but if you happen to be reading these words instead, the least I can do is show you something inspiring ;)

For the next 3 minutes and 59 seconds, I want you to watch this video and then get pumped up with ideas on how YOU can go out there and do the same. Parts of this is a little extreme, but it’s a GREAT reminder of everything we talk about here on the blog and about money in general.

So turn up the volume!

You can read more about Joe on his site – No More Harvard Debt – and see everything else he’s been up to as well – it’s fascinating stuff (and also full of nerdy spreadsheets!). Then tomorrow I’ll hop back on and finish up a post I was writing that coincidentally talks about a KEY takeaway of this video :) So lots more financial goodness to come! Get excited!

NOW GET BACK OUT THERE AND ENJOY THIS MEMORIAL DAY!

Big thanks to Kathryn and Sara for sending this over to me – y’all rock.

This was definitely an amazing story. I had heard about it but have never seen the video. It is just awesome. This afternoon I’m off to my parents official pool opening party! Yay for the unofficial start of summer… So did you win anything at poker night last night?

Cool! Sounds like fun – we might be hitting ours up this afternoon too :) And yeah dude! Poker was awesome last night. Hadn’t played in like 5 years, and it all came back pretty naturally. Ended up doubling my money :) Though, the wife lost hers so really we kinda broke even, haha… can’t wait to do it again though!

Go for it! Even if you did just 1/5 of the stuff that Joe did in that video you’d be killin’ it! :)

I have read about his story and find it so inspiring! Yes, he has a good income, but he also had a lot of debt and he did what he had to to get rid of it. What a great success story!

Thanks for posting this – I am sure it will inspire so many people. What I liked best? You know that we humans tend to like people who remind us of ourselves (and things that remind us of what we did)? Well, I was almost crying when Joe was saying that he was going without things he thought he could never be without and it felt good! This is what I have been doing for the last two and a half years and have paid off over $100,000 of ‘credit crunch’ debt. It can be done! And it feels good – we don’t really need ‘stuff’ and we already have too much.

Wow! Some of the stuff he did is pretty extreme, but it seems to have worked for him! Very inspiring.

Just had to post again to say that I spelled my own name wrong. Whoops! Haha.

This was really inspiring! I graduated with $34000 of debt, which for a Canadian with a BA in Unemployability is an awful lot. (I’m a queer atheist who majored in Religion and minored in History; I’m far from in demand.)

I got a job and worked my ass off to get a quick raise to and all the overtime (at 1.5x my wage) I could handle. I got a cheap-ass crappy apartment with a roommate, and put his share of the rent/utilities/groceries straight into loan repayment. I lived off dried beans and rice. I investigated loan forgiveness programs that people didn’t know existed and got over $6000 knocked off.

I finished school at the end of April 2008; my loans were paid off by the end of that summer. And then the economy fell apart, and I was okay, even when I lost my job in January 2009, because I’d paid off my loans. And it all felt damned good!
