Well, happy Easter in a couple of days anyways! Figured I might as well wish you a joyful one before the festivities start :)
It’ll definitely be a joyful one over in the Money household now that I’ll be able to drink beer again! WOO-HOO!!!! Almost lasted 40 days without alcohol, and unlike other habits I’ve given up over the years, this one just gets harder each day, haha… I probably sound like an alcoholic sharing that, but it’s the dang truth! I miss my nightly beer! It’s good for your heart, you know? ;)
On the other hand, I’ve saved at least $50-$100 taking on this mission so far. $50 just from the beer I drink at home, and another $50 or so from going to my first happy hour not being able to drink anything, haha… THAT was rough. Although I must say it was nice having time slow down for once and actually remembering everything! :) That’s the worst part of bars/parties/clubs/etc – you have so much fun and so many drinks that it all just whizzes by and the night’s over before you know it. Cuz of course happy hour should REALLY be called happy hourS – it’s never just one!
So yeah, I’ll be one happy – and slightly buzzed – camper come Easter. I’m sure my tolerance has gone down being old and all too, making it even more interesting for those around me ;)
What will you all be doing for Easter this weekend? Visiting family or friends or just life as usual? I know not everyone celebrates it, of course, but hopefully you’ll have fun whatever it is you’re getting into this weekend… Here’s a list of stuff we’ll be doing (outside of drinking):
- Easter egg hunt! Been a tradition for at least 30 years now and it doesn’t stop with or without kids ;) (Though now we’re okay in that department since our family is growing by the years)
- Easter basket exchange. Moreso now for the kids and ‘couples’, but my mom still loves giving us little goodies and we still enjoy eating them. And all the siblings put stuff together for a nice one for our mother as well – it’s kinda nice.
- FOOD FOOD FOOD!!! Lots of tasty homemade food courtesy of my parents at their home.
- Lots of quality time together. Doesn’t matter if we’re just watching movies, or playing games, or even taking out the dogs on a walk – it’s nice to just spend some time with family and forget about work/problems/etc for a while.
Lots of traditions still being kept in our household :) And I hope to do the same as little Money and his future brothers/sisters come along too (we’re having at least 7, did I tell you that? Don’t tell the wife!).
Anywho. Happy Easter or whatever else you’ll be celebrating this weekend :) May God bless you and our family and even all that money you’re saving up in those accounts! We’re all super fortunate to be here right now, and it’s always good to stop and be thankful for things when we can… like having awesome blog readers such as yourself ;) Be safe, my friends!

I did pretty well! I gave up watching tv alone. It was really hard at first but overall so helpful. I could spend more time with my baby, get more done around the home, read my Bible more and other books, and get outside more!
I bet!! Are you going to keep it up now that Lent’s almost over, or just do less of it still?
Definitely going to stick to a reduced schedule; no more mindless searching for a new show addiction! Especially because I don’t want my son to grow up crazy about tv. So I need to curb my own viewing before he is old enough to even understand.
I hear that. We get addicted to tons of reality shows ourselves, but so far we’ve been good about only watching them in the evenings after the baby goes down. Now the only problem is keeping up with them all! :)
We celebrate it, but are fairly low key about it. We’ll just have fun with our kids and make a nice meal for Sunday after church. Life has been way too busy the last two weeks to plan anything big. ;)

We gave up alcohol again this year for lent, and have been successful. Similar to you, there are two bottles of wine waiting for the green light.
Quick question. How come when you stop drinking, there are so many opportunities for free booze that arise? Not cool.
I know, right? It’s just the Big Man trying to make sure we stay on our game ;) He’s smooth like that.

Congrats on making it for so long without caving – I’m like that with my wine, but lately more often than not, I’ve been passing on it so that I can save the calories. I’m trying to reach a goal of losing ten pounds and alcohol is so calorie rich!
I’m making my parents, SO and brother do an Easter Egg hunt. You’re never too old!

This Easter will be my little one’s first “walking” Easter, so she will be able to get in on the Easter egg hunt. I’m pretty excited about that.

Have you noticed that whatever family you have been invited to, it’s always about eating and drinking. Whatever happened to Jesus in whose name it’s celebrated.
On Sunday, many folks get drunk.
He’s still there, just more in some places than others :) I’m sure he likes people spending quality time together too.
I gave up dairy to start, then gave up alcohol partway through after a bad experience. I suppose it’s not the point of lent, but it is nice when it also helps out the health and the pocketbook

My in-laws are having us over for some yummy dinner :)
We didn’t have a really strong Easter tradition growing up. It was basically go to church for an extremely long mass. I’m catholic :). My mom says there where some years we skipped church because she got tired of our complaining. We had sunday lunch, and then, maybe if we were invited somewhere we would go somewhere for Easter.
Haha yeah – they are pretty long on Easter :) Our wee one didn’t want to sit still at all too so we had a lot of bouncing and walking around this year!
My husband, who really does not speak of God at all, always say that Easter is the holiest day of the year, go figure. Have a Blessed Easter J Money et al.
Well, congrats on the happy hour feat! And we all went for a picnic on Easter, a big family get together, played some games, ate lovely food, lay in the sun and just enjoyed the fact that is was a good weekend. As for your money saving venture – it’s amazing how small changes to our lifestyles can change our financial lives so drastically!
