Yesteryear in Pictures [And Stats]

by J. Money on Friday, January 24, 2014

blogging is so last year

Last year I wrote 350 articles here. A handful of them were awesome, half of them were decent, and the rest were just “meh.” Today’s post highlights some of those in that first category for all those who might have missed out on ‘em… Or shall I say, “forgotten” ‘em since I know you wouldn’t dare skip a day reading this most magnificent blog, would you? ;)

And because I’m half lazy, and half interested in seeing how your brain works, I thought I’d list them all via PICTURES instead of titles. So you’ll have to guess what’s on the other side if you’re interested in learning anything today, haha… And I refrained from putting up any of the more scantily-clad pictures too so they don’t skew the results (HEY NOW! Don’t you click that link back there!!).

Before we get to that though, here were some other interesting facts from 2013:

  • We became landlords
  • Our income took a dive by $70k
  • But our net worth increased by $105k!
  • I got in exactly 2 car accidents: 1 my fault, 1 not
  • We received over 1.2 Million page views, now totaling 6 Mil
  • We created our 2nd child, who has yet to make an appearance!
  • And I’m now one year older… though, unfortunately so are you ;)

It’s been a wild year to say the least. And documenting everything on a blog makes it even more real when you can go back and read about it all! I highly suggest it if you’re into that sorta stuff (diary-making). But the best news of all is that we’re still here living and breathing, and as long as that continues we’ll be fine in this world ;) Thanks so much for being a part of the journey!

Now, onto 10 of Our More Popular Posts!

Click away on what visually excites you, then tell us which you liked below :)

Which did you click on? Did it defy your expectations? ;) I’ll have to throw in some zingers this year in case we do it again… Until then, get ready to have a most splendid new year! Even though we’re already 24 days into it! Haha…

[I love me a celebration, what can I say?]

I clearly remember 4 of your top 10. Do I win a prize? Ha. 350 articles in a year, now that’s impressive. Happy New Year!

Top 6 was funny “Things I’d Tell My 20 Year Old Self”… I can relate to that picture too, but now I can only count on my fingers how many times I spend money on partying or drinking.

Feels good to read that “Things I’d Tell My 20 Year Old Self” and see #3. Sometimes I have to remind myself it’s okay to spend money going out with friends and investing in relationships. I regret that when I first moved to NYC I hustled so hard that it meant I missed out on a lot of fun opportunities with friends I was making from my kick ass job in entertainment.

Well, the good news is you still have plenty of years left in ya to change that :) And hustling hard comes with a lot of benefits too! Just start hustling while WITH your friends sometimes, haha…

350 articles in one year! That is super impressive! I remembered the then and now post! Probably because of how many people I know were (and still are) getting pregnant!

Thanks! Even more so for the fact I don’t enjoy writing, haha.. But I do like getting my thoughts out and seeing the finished product :)

I love the “then” and “now” picture. Here’s a question for ya: have you noticed that Rolling Rock isn’t the same since Budweiser took it over? It just doesn’t taste the same to my friends and me anymore. Such a shame.

Huh… I hadn’t really thought about that before, but I will say that the last few I’ve had I wasn’t as impressed like I used to be. I just thought I got a bad batch or something, or maybe my tastes had changed? But you may be on to something!

The “then” and “now” pic was definitely my fave pic (mostly because you could easily put me into both of those pics in place of you :-) ), but the scrooge McDuck post on Why I’m Obsessed with Rich Habits was my fave post. Just love the wisdom there!

I clicked the Word(press?) picture because anything with connection with blogging interests me right now and I don’t know why.

I went for the PBR can and the Happy Endings gif. I have no idea what this says about me (Funny hipster? Guy with a drinking problem who’s holding on to the past?)

Hahahah… I don’t know what it says about you either, but I do know that you just won today’s award for Best Comment :) The prize? PBR!

I clicked on striped shirt guy and Seinfeld, but my favorite part of this post is slowly scrolling down the post pretending the pictures told a single story… Such a range of emotions going from pic to pic.

YES! Haha… didn’t even cross my mind to do that – I should have organized them better and then had people guess what it all meant :)

I’m a fan of the “then” and “now” selfies. I’m only in my late 20s and I already feel the difference.

I had to click on the scrooge mcduck and glad I did. Those old video game screen shots are awesome! Nice way of putting it together J$. Have an awesome weekend man.

Congratulations on huge milestones this year! I love your post “I’m not rich but thanks for asking.” I used to be fixated on salaries defining my “worth” now I am just excited to make smart, informed and unemotional financial choices. And yes, you learned what my dad always says (and now I do) “children are the death of net worth.” :-)

Haha, I love the mortician post and am sorry it took me so long to find this website! I wanted to be a mortician so bad when I was kid – weirdest 5 year old ever.

Really?? That’s both intriguing and freaky at the same time, haha… what did you end up “becoming?”

27 Mel @ brokeGIRLrich January 25, 2014 at 10:14 pm

LOL. A stage manager… working with the dead would’ve been a way easier career path, I think.

Although I also thought being a grave digger would be awesome too for a good stretch in elementary school. Too many Goosebumps books for this kid.

I am new to your site… and so far I am intriguid! I love how you put pictures up instead of just saying what the post was ,very clever. The diary form of blogging is something that frankly I never thought about and I am interested! Going to go to check out the rest of your blog now.

J – Nice job on he 350 posts! I think I was around 180.

Thoughts on me writing more to boost traffic? Or conversely you writing less?

I’m at a cross roads whether to increase output from 3 a week to 4 a week. I like the two day air-time of a post, but I’m not sure what’s best.

Reply

34 J. Money February 6, 2014 at 10:53 am

Yeah, I have no idea to be honest with you. I often wonder what would happen if I scaled back to 3 posts a week, and I don’t think it would crash and burn or anything, haha… I’m just afraid that I’ll start getting lazy and then dwindle down to two a week, then one, then trail off… I say if you’re happy at 3 then stick with it. Especially if you’re using that extra time to market/promote your site. If you go to 4 posts will you still be able to do that?

35 Financial Samurai February 12, 2014 at 2:19 am

Donno. I hardly do any promoting, so that’s something to do for this year. I need some kinda motivation.
