It’s the 4th of July and you’ll be out and lovin’ on America and hot dogs here shortly, but before you do take a few seconds and read this awesome essay (?) I stumbled upon while looking for pics the other day for Rockstar Finance…
I usually don’t read the descriptions of them when scanning Flickr, but for some reason I decided to on this one and was pleasantly surprised when I did :) Maybe you’ll enjoy it too?
I saw this penny, created in 1977, two years before I was born and the year my wife was born. It made me think about what kind of journey its been on, how many hands had held it, etc. It was a fascinating thought. It had probably been with people that had much and with people that had very little.
One thing I realized however is that no one owns that penny. It’s had several users, but no owner, including myself. Someday, it will move on again. Currency is meant to be active, to move and that is a secret to wealth.
So often we think about acquiring money, so that we can survive, pay the bills, get out of debt, etc. but I could give this penny away and set it in motion and more would come. I’ve seen this happen several times and it is an awesome process! One of my favorite verses is: “Give and it will come back to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over” (Luke 6:38).I have been practicing that by faith and wow, its been an incredible experience!
It’s just a penny? no, not at all. I know people who can take a penny and make millions. I’ve known people who have done it. A penny is something, it’s a start. What I do with it is what determines what I receive as a result of that action.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one single step. The journey to prosperity and financial freedom starts with one penny.
Most people see a penny and think about lack. I look at this penny and think about prosperity. My hope is that this penny will be a blessing to someone else and add much to another life. :)
Happy birthday, America! Here’s to (Financial) Independence!
