How about stay away from the mall day or Don’t use your credit card/Paypal for online shopping day?
Oh J. Money, if you only knew all the things we retailers have up our sleeves for this holiday season (which started before Halloween in case you were curious).
Don’t forget the third week of January which is formally, “Why are there no good deals? week.” The answer is that all the marketers are on vacation.
So glad I feel no compulsion to participate. I think we’ll go hiking instead.

I cannot believe all the Christmas decorations & music out already. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving..it always has been. I refuse to decorate or start shopping until after Thanksgiving…not on Thanksgiving but after Thanksgiving. We wonder what is wrong with the world…the people waiting on you are Mother/Fathers/Sons/Daughters/Brother/Sisters we forget to respect “family”.
I don’t mind all the pretty decorations, but I do mind people talking about shopping all day/dinner long while hanging out :(
My favorite is the companies that allow you to enjoy Black Friday “All Month Long”! All that means is you get mediocre deals…all month long!
I still can’t understand why we allow all of the materialism to overrun our holidays. Why can’t society realize the freedoms that come from not getting caught up in the materialistic games that the stores try to push on us.
Our plastic is staying nice and cozy in our wallets where it belongs. There’s no need to answer the call when all it is is purposeless noise…and purposeless spending for the most part. What a waste!
Now, can you pass the candied yams pretty please?
What the heck is luxury Sunday and green Monday? Never heard of them before.
We Canadians used to just have “Boxing Day” (boy that sounds cool doesn’t it), but lately more and more shops are following the US “shopping” holidays. And you wonder why it’s so easy to spend money on things…
I definitely miss the lack of noise that used to be the norm in Canada. At least we were left alone until early December. Now we get to be pitched around two Thanksgiving dates that are over a month apart. Hallowe’en’s barely over before the first pitch is made. Ugh!
I know about your Boxing Day – it’s my birthday! :) I give you permission to celebrate, haha..
Black Friday starts on Thanksgiving now for many places!!!!!! I’ve been seeing Christmas decorations since before Halloween this year. It’s getting crazy!
The only thing I might do is small business Saturday:P Yeah it’s still shopping. But oh well I have a gift list to fulfill!
All the buying hoopla just makes me chuckle. It doesn’t bother me at all. The people who fall for the hype are the YOLO and FOMO folks. I suspect they don’t visit this site.

I was quite happy to see that some of the big retailers are closing on that day.

All those days is what makes the money flowing and our investments growing ;) If everyone in the world was saving like us there wasn’t an economy.
From a different perspective, I see all those days has an opportunity to buy something that I need in a cheaper price instead of buying stuff that are nice to have.
Now, it’s our job to have a clear understanding what is the difference between “something I really need” against “something that is nice to have”.

Why not rename November and have a special day every day of the month?
I’ve never heard of a majority over those days. Stuff like this just ruins holidays. Honestly, I’ve gotten to the point where I hate the Christmas season, because people expect money, spending, and stuff. It drives me nuts.
The day after Christmas, Valentine’s Day stuff will roll out. Along with Sweetest Day and whatever new holidays the marketing departments come up with.
I think all the VDay cards come out the day after Christmas because it’s my birthday ;) Everyone loves me!!! Muah haha….
Crazy ridiculous! I plan to be earning money instead of spending it :)

I just started reading your blog. I could not agree with you more. What’s even more frustrating is when you have kids and the only association they have with any holiday is materialism. Sure, you can try to set an example at home, but you’re up against huge marketing forces!
I know. We need some back up to get the goodness back infused!
