You Better Work, B*tch.

I don’t know what’s going on in the music world right now, but I’m LOVING the lessons coming out of pop culture! First we had Lorde spitting lyrical lessons on money, and now we’ve got infamous Britney Spears reminding us what it takes to be successful – what is this world coming to?? ;)

(That’s right, I listen to Britney Spears, son – don’t hate!)

Now I should note this latest song of hers isn’t nearly as profound as The Royals one – especially when the materialism is running rampant – but nonetheless the takeaway is key.

Here’s a snippet of Britney’s new song aptly titled, “Work B*tch” (NSFW, obvs):

You want a hot body?
You want a Bugatti?
You want a Maserati?

You better work bitch…

You want a Lamborghini?
Sip Martinis?
Look hot in a bikini?

You better work bitch…

BAM! Take that, lazy bones! You want to look good ridin’ or flexing those muscles? You better work it, bitch! You want that career, or freedom, or baller status of being a full-time blogger?? You want to get out of debt or retire when you’re 30? Time to start hustling, bitch!

Straight and to the point – I love it. Hard work will get you whatever you want in life.

Here’s more:

You want to live fancy?
Live in a big mansion?
Party in France?

You better work bitch…

Okay, The BookieBoos are shining pretty hard here, but let’s try and overlook that lifestyle and get back to the moral – which is that YOU NEED TO WORK HARD to achieve your goals. And though there’s no shortage of hits promoting fancy cars/houses/hot bodies, at least it’ll connect with 99% of the public which I can certainly get down with. Whatever gets them to hit pause and take action, right?

She then goes off her rocker and starts adding junk into the song (typical Brit Brit), but to fairly represent it – and do my journalistic diligence – I have to include it here so you know what you’re dealing with ;)

Go call the police.
Go call the governor.
I bring the trouble.
That means the trouble y’all (what else would it mean?)
I make it bubble up
Call me the bubbler (Lame.)
I am the bad bitch
The bitch that you’ll never know (I’m pretty sure we all know about you)

Moving along now… She eventually gets back to the point of hustling and pretty much tells us to just quit all of our yapping and to finally pull that trigger on ACTION. A la Nike – “just do it!”

Bring it on
Ring the alarm
Don’t stop now
Just be the champion
Work it hard like it’s your profession

So. Britney Spears regains some of her respect she’s lost over the years, and is now sorta-kinda-not-really up in the ranks of Lorde now with her positive messages ;) In fact, they make quite the duo if you think about it:

First, you blast some Royals to get your mind right and focused, then you put on some Work It B*tch to make it happen! Kinda like going to the gym – Lorde gets you all pumped up and motivated to actually *go*, and then Britney flows through your veins while you’re physically doing the work out. It’s peanut butter and jelly, baby! (Just never, EVER, let people around you find out you’re listening to Britney Spears for motivation ;) Especially at the gym.)

Now, get to work bitch!

Agreed! And I love it that Britney is now breaking into the personal finance scene. Such wise advice from such a pretty pop star. Want nice things, you gotta work for them.

It’s a great theme if you just take out all the materialistic stuff out (at least for me). But if that is what makes you work harder, than why no!

And we should take a poll of the best song! I’ll stick to the original, ‘baby one more time’.

Inspiration from a woman who can’t manage her own financial affairs and has a court appointed financial conservatorship.

I am using Katie Perry’s Roar as my inspiration and call to action.

The irony is that her body was apparently drastically altered via CGI to make it thinner and more toned in the video. Google Britney Spears CGI…

I think you would be hard pressed to find many videos or pictures that aren’t touched up in todays world. It’s really kind of sad that we’ve created such unrealistic image that even the professional models of the world can’t meet it.

Hmm interesting song for the radio when half of it is curse words. Haha your interpretation of her song is fun! I doubt that’s what she intended the message to be but hey it works if you can actually make out what she’s saying.

It’s amazing what kind of truth lies in simplicity. Sure, the song is not exactly a work of lyrical genius, but it proves one of the most fundamental aspects of the American Dream. If you want it, you have to work for it. I use this song for motivation at the gym, and for getting through college!

My first cd was Britney’s debut album. In fact, I swiped money from my parents change jar and hit up the Coinstar at the local Fred Meyer to buy it. That’s all I’m going to admit on the internets, though.

It seems like she goes in and out of having an English accent in this and other songs. I’m not sure where that’s coming from. Still can’t complain about anyone that encourages us all to put in a little more effort.

I know, right? I feel like a LOT of singers’ voices go into accents here and there… I don’t even think they mean it to either – it’s just what they think *sounds good* when they’re doing it. At least that’s my only reasoning for it :)

J you don’t need to be ashamed of your musical taste as I like those songs. Of course when I was single I had to hide my taste in music before I was able to trick my wife to falling in love with me. She doesn’t like my taste in music, the beauty of being married she’s stuck.

I don’t think Britney Spears’ music is not sending out financial advice. Funny that she says work, when she has made her millions from crappy songs and bad publicity. She is just promoting what your blog is against, making money and filling it with instant gratification and material items.

Lordes, “Royals” is not about money. It is simply stating that most people in our world are not celebrities and we will never be like them. The lyrics state that it is okay to have a normal life.

You don’t think Britney has worked to get to where she is?? She was hustling (and making tons of money) before she was like 8 or something crazy like that… She had already made it big way before she went nutso.
