My Curiosity With Your Money Continues… [5 For Friday]

What up what up!  It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these (since March, I believe?), so it’s time to whip ’em back out and see whatchya’ll been up to these days ;) I gotta keep ya on your toes!

Here are today’s 5 for Friday questions… made up totally from my head, without thinking of my own answers first so I can be as fresh as you are when answering these bad boys… sometimes I even stump myself! ;)

  1. What was the last thing you wasted money on?
  2. What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on?
  3. How much money is in your pocket/purse right now?
  4. Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100?
  5. Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock?
  6. **BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time?

Haha… I crack myself up ;)  I’ll answer them first, and then it’s your turn in the comments below…

  1. Last thing I wasted money on: It would have to be these damn Oakleys I bought for $100 last month, only to realize they didn’t fit my face and I couldn’t return them cuz I bought them at the airport!  And not my usual one either, arghhh… so if anyone’s looking for some pimpin’ white brand new Gascans, they’re all yours for $50! ;)
  2. Last great deal: Hmm… probably this old decanter I picked up at a flea market the other weekend for $9.  It’s super old and fits PERFECTLY into my pimp library!  Right next to a box of cigars and that old knife I got from a different yard sale ;)
  3. Money in my pocket: $52.00 in bills… no coins (they now go in my baby’s piggy bank!)
  4. Skip work?  Daaang hard one!  I’d totally do it if I were completed w/ all my main tasks for the day, but sadly I’m  not :(  And it’s not like I can wait until Monday to do them either or else none of y’all would have a post to read when you’re back here! Haha… so the boss is telling me NO, unless I wanna come back on for a full day over the weekend, which I don’t. But in a way I guess that means I kinda save $100 too, right? Since it’s my own money I’d be giving myself anyways? ;)
  5. Facebook stock: Nope, I did not buy although I’ll admit I was tempted!  And even MORE so these days as it’s down a good 30% since starting! Crazy… I have no doubt they’ll figure out a way to make a killing though, it’s just a matter of time.  And maybe by then I’ll have invested already?  What do you guys think?
  6. **BONUS** I’d 100% take Obama outside and challenge him to a one-on-one game of b’ball ;)  While picking his brain and asking him as many personal questions as I could think of (off the record, of course).  I’m not big into politics so I’d stay away from all that stuff, but I’d def. ask him about business and his thoughts on life/love/etc… and then at the end get him to sign a crisp new dollar bill for me to go along w/ the other celebs I’ve added up on my wall over time! (My favorite so far being Ben Stiller :)  On a $5 bill cuz that’s all I had on me at the time! Haha…) If any of you’d like to send me a dollar w/ your signature on it, I’d happily add those up too :)

Alright, your turn!  Answer all of them or as many as you want.  We’ll see how creative y’all get, and learn a bit more about your recent financials too :) Enjoy the weekend!

    1. Wasted money on a car wash! It rained the next day (which was not predicted by the weatherman here in Pittsburgh).
    2. The last thing I got a GREAT deal on was cinamon buns! Might sound dumb, but I was at IKEA and it was about to close and I asked the girl at the food counter if I could buy 1 roll for $1. She said “how about 12 for $1” and I took it! Timing is everything (she would have just thrown them out, I’m sure ha).
    3. A $5 bill and 7 $1 bills. No coinage either…I need to stop at an ATM..only $12?!
    4. Yes, I would absolutely skip work. I do agree there’s things that would need to be done before I left, but I could always pass those off on someone, right?
    5. Did not jump on the Facebook IPO (although I wanted to) and may buy some stock in the future b/c I too think it will get up there someday.
    6. Ha I actually would shoot hoops with Obama as well. He seems like a really interesting guy and is very well spoken. Plus, I think beating the commander-in-cheif in pickup would give me solidify my induction into the street league hoops hall of fame. hah

    1. Just bought some glittery pink t-shirts from Cancer UK. I don’t need them but it’s a way of giving money that is not as boring as some…
    2. Last great deal: a meal out two nights ago in a local Turkish Restaurant. £2 for a starter – all flame cooked in ovens and too big to finish. INcredible.
    3. £427 I got some money out to pay the builders and seem to have kept the change.
    4. I don’t work but no, I wouldn’t skip work for $100 – if you have a commitment, you have a commitment.
    5. No way will I buy FB shares. FB is the past not the future.
    6. I would plump for an arm wrestle with Michelle.

    1. $10 on scratch offs and only got $4 in winnings
    2. Some may not think its a great deal because it still cost some money but we booked a trip to Hawaii for 10 days that includes flight, car and hotel for 2 people for $3200. Personally I think its a steal!
    3. Not much, just some change
    4. Nope, I make more than $100 a day so that would be a loss for me
    5. Nope

What was the last thing you wasted money on?
Fresh pesto and mozzerella sandwich on a ciabatta. heaven. Don’t regret either.
What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on?
Bread. 3 loaves for $1 Cash only. I’ll pony up for that.
How much money is in your pocket/purse right now?
    $15 give or take
Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100?
yup. I don’t have a salaried job right now.
Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock?
    nope, not interested.
**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time?
This is fun. We are taking jump pictures. We are having a flash mob dance party and putting it on youtube. After he writes a “Barack was here” on my wall.

What was the last thing you wasted money on? I don’t know if it was wasted as much as it didn’t last long. I had just purchased a new hurley from Ireland (from their national sport of hurling). Spent a week treating the wood and in my first match snapped it in half so I can’t repair it. Oh well, I’ll just have to buy another one.

What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on? Baby Car seat. It happened to go on sale over memorial day and I found some online code that was stackable, and I got SW points for the purchase. It was great timing too since the little guy came a month early!

How much money is in your pocket/purse right now? $1… I don’t usually have much cash (I keep an emergency amount in my car).

Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100? No. I value my PTO days too much and I need all the money I can get with the new baby.

Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock? No and No. I don’t like their business model and certainly don’t like the way their CEO acts.

**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time? No idea. Maybe I’d make fun of the Chicago Bears or something like that to see if I could get a rise out of him

    1. A subway sub. I totally had a frozen dinner in the fridge at work but was craving their tuna!
    2. Work boots. Although when I finally got them in the mail they didn’t fit right. So maybe not a deal?
    3. No money in my wallet. I donated my last $2 cash to cancer research last night. (I hardly ever carry cash anyway)
    4. No way I’d skip work for the rest of the day. I’m into overtime territory! Time and half baby!
    5. No Facebook stock for me, now or ever. I honestly think Facebook has pretty much reached it’s pinnacle. I don’t honestly think it can get much bigger.
Bonus – thats a toughy. I’m not into politics, and I can’t play basketball to save my life.. So, I’d probably just have a regular conversation with him and see where it goes in that hour. Or maybe I’d ask for a personal tour of the White House. Go see all those rooms you can’t see on the public tour. :-)

What was the last thing you wasted money on? Red Bull & a lottery ticket.
What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on? Free barnwood! YAY for my husband’s furniture.
How much money is in your pocket/purse right now? $120 – I’m taking my best homeslice out for her birthday tonight.
Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100? No, I have to stay here so I can go meet my aforementioned homeslice tonight. And all I’d do if you gave me the $100 is spend it (and probably more) while out shopping for her gift :)
Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock? No/Never.
**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time? That’s a loaded question. I find him kind of sexy, but we’re both married.

What was the last thing you wasted money on? A can of diet soda which turned into buying a cookie for a colleague since he forgot his money at his desk. ($1.60)
What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on? Tim Ferris’ book 4-Hour-Body, This has already changed my life and I am only one month in.
How much money is in your pocket/purse right now? None, rarely do I carry money.
Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100? Yes because I am a salary worker and get paid regardless.
Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock? No and No
**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time? Coarse a grant for funding for a startup.

    Here we go:
What was the last thing you wasted money on? Money I spent eating out. I enjoy the social aspect but don’t need to be spending it right now…so I’ll call that money down the drain.
What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on? A birthday present for a 2 year old neighbor. Really excellent gift for only $2. Score!
How much money is in your pocket/purse right now? After counting it, the grand total was $0.42. I don’t carry cash because I typically spend it, but the last $5 I had was given for a birthday cake for a coworker.
Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100? Absolutely. I’m obviously not overly busy today (I’m reading blogs at the moment, you know) and my boss is pretty lenient as long as my work is getting done. So leaving AND $100? Yes, please.
Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock? Nope.
**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time? Not really sure. I’m totally not a fan of his politics or policies, but to meet the President would be cool – regardless of who the President was. :) Then maybe I’d get him to paint our den because I don’t want to do it but it really needs to be done. He could at least cut in the edges for me in an hour…that’s my least favorite part.

Last great deal–My Hugo Boss purchase last weekend $185 shirt for $13.98 baby!
Money in my pocket–$1! I don’t carry cash very often
Take the day off for a hundo–Nah, but if you said $200 I would
Facebook stock–Nope. Didn’t buy into the hype

An hour with Obama–I’d have him call a state of the union and give me the podium for the entire time to shoot my mouth off

    1) The biggest waste recently was probably the Empire State Building. We spent $25 on tickets, waited in line for about 4 hours… and it was raining and lightening so you couldn’t really see anything, had to wait EVEN LONGER to go outside, and when we finally did get outside we didn’t want to stay long. UGH. I’m DEFINITELY going to have to plan that better next time I go to NYC. It was such a waste of time. At least I got a cool picture for my blog header. Blah.
    2) The last great deal? Probably when I was in NYC again. The first full day we were there a HUGE outdoor shopping fair was right outside of the hotel. I got this AMAZING original hand made dress from a street vendor for $25. Considering I could get something that’s NOT original and NOT handmade from other NYC stores that I can find here in Missouri for $50 that are a lesser quality – not a bad deal at all. Also, the best money I’ve spent recently was on Sunday. I took one of our jr. high girls out for smoothies at BK and we had THE BEST conversation. :)
    3) I don’t have ANY cash on me, just a bunch of change. I know.. I’m terrible.
    4) YES! I would totally skip work if you gave me $100. I’m only in the office until noon today anyways and most of my to-do list for Sunday is done. I would love to have the extra cash (so I can buy groceries) and have some extra time to get things done at home.
    5) Nope, no Facebook stock. I probably won’t in the future either, but not really for any particular reason.
BONUS- You know me, any excuse to go out for coffee! :D And I would probably be like you. Not really get into politics and just pick his brain about life and such. I feel like he would be really fun to just hang out with.

2.Two Red Target Lanterns for my balcony. 10 bucks each originally 20 bucks.
    3. $0 But an off the hook American Express with a 0 balance and no limits.
    4. I would because your hundo and my vaca paid day off will be better than working.
    5. No facebook stock for me. – I assumed it was going down.
    6. I would take 50 pics with him for my blog pic archive and have him write a guest post on my blog and run it on all the media publications for immediate fame.

    1. I bet $10 on a couple horse in the Kentucky Derby. I know I am going to lose the money, but I still bet it every year.
    2. I got a pair of $70 pair of Banana Republic khakis on clearance for $8.
    3. $16 in cash, no change. I really dislike change so I never carry it around.
    4. Yes, because I am a state employee so I have plenty of leave hours. Is that against the rules?
    5. No I didn’t buy it because I was pretty sure it was going to flop. I may buy it once it reaches what I feel is it’s true valuation. Around $18.
    6. Well I am not a big fan of Barack’s politics, it seems like he may be a fairly cool dude. I would definitely play basketball against him or taking him to the driving range and show him what real golf skills look like. :)

    2. Barely used Ikea furniture on Craigslist for my guest room. Two dressers, bed, and desk for less than 50% the original price.

    3. $0. I’ve started using my cash rewards card for just about everything.

    4. In a heartbeat. But I only have to work until 3p today, so that’s easy.

    4. Nope. I’ve got billable work to do this afternoon.
    5. No and no. What an overhyped stock!

    1) I wasted money on a online subscription to The Paris Review. It’s not totally wasted because I can access it via computer, but I thought I was going to be able to access it via my Kindle Fire. So far, I haven’t figured it out, and I don’t think it’s possible.

    2) Honestly, I think people who are buying Cisco stock (at mid $16 levels) like me right now are getting a great deal. Disclosure: I own Cisco stock. :)

    3) I put the last $2 in my wallet into the tip jar when I ordered takeout sushi the other day. Right now, I’m sitting on $0.

    4) I probably couldn’t take the $100 since we’re moving cubicles today, and I’m supposed to move my own stuff and my boss’s stuff. I’d sure rather take the money, though!

    5) I did not buy Facebook stock, but if it gets down to the low $20s, I’m seriously considering getting some.

    6) I’d probably take the man out to lunch (imagine taking the President out to lunch!). A main question I’d like to ask over our meal concerns the prison at Guantanamo Bay. One thing I was excited about when he got elected was that he said he’d close that base down early in the first year of his Presidency, and it’s still going strong. I feel pretty strongly that humans are endowed by their creator with certain, inalienable rights, and among those rights is freedom not to be locked up indefinitely without charges pressed (not to mention freedom from torture).

Sorry, that got a little political. I respect Obama, but I think what happens/happened at GB is profoundly at odds with what America stands for.

    3) How much money is in your pocket/purse right now? abt $12

    4) Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100? ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY! I’ve had a week and CANNOT wait til 5pm!

    5) Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock? no & no

    1) Wasted money on looking at moving to another state. Spent a few trips going there to check things out, only to find out it would be cheaper for me to drive back and forth (1000 miles) than it would be to move there.
    2) $0.50 for “The Help” (an $18 book) and not moving.
    3) I have approx. $220.23. Was going to use it for moving money, but that never materialized.
4)Yes Definitely. I could always work on school stuff and have extra money.
    5) No Facebook stock, not sure it is worth it for the future, and I only have $275 from my birthday to spend on investing.
*Sounds like a nasty movie or something! I don’t know where my mind is.
I would eat lunch or dinner with him, ask him how he views success, how he got there, what he recommends for someone like me, and just generally any information he would love to give. Then take lots of pictures, because no one would ever believe it.

Breakfast at Starbuck’s yesterday. I intentionally didn’t take in my cereal so I could get a scone.

2.What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on?
Probably an Xbox 360 bundle from NewEgg. Yeah, we’re a bit late to the party. :)

3.How much money is in your pocket/purse right now?
$135.05, cashed a couple of small checks recently

4.Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100?
No, I’m working from home today, so it’s kinda like not working. Listening to Marketplace, doing laundry. wheee

    1. Probably fast food.

    2. The wifes snowmobile, compared to similar ones we looked at I think we got a pretty good deal. The other ones had way more mileage than the one we ended up buying and this thing was clean.

    3. $127, but most of the time it isn’t like this. I got a MX race this weekend so need cash to pay for class and entrance fees, plus camping.

    4. Sure would, but I’ve been skipping work all week. 9 days off for vacation.

    5. Nope. and Yes, I will buy when I see $10 or lower. That would be a fairer market value than what it is now. Not a fan of their business model.

Bonus: Although not my favorite president, I would ask him why we as a country are not on a budget. I think it is ridiculous that we spend way more than we bring in and there has got to be a change or we will end up like Greece, which I think isn’t that far off. This means cuts in expenditures and increases in revenue, something both sides won’t agree on. I would also convince him to make it where I never have to pay taxes again. I would probably also hand him a pocket full of change, and say “here’s your change back.”

    2. the Jumbo Ritas last night at happy hour were $3.
    3. I have $0 on me today. I’ve used all my walking around cash for the week.
    4. I would have a sudden illness, and take the $100 to a bar with a patio across town from work.
    5. I did not buy Facebook stock, but I will not say that i will never buy Facebook stock.
    6. I would ask him how it feels to be the HNIC, and challenge him to a basketball game of 21.

    2. The house I’m buying! Between the buyer’s market and insanely low interest rates, I’m stoked!
    3. Roughly $60…to get me through next Thursday morning.
    4. I’d be out in a heartbeat, and then I’d gas up the car, buy some snacks, and go hiking for two or three days.
    5. A big h the f no. And honestly saw that coming a mile away.
    6. I’d love to watch a game of football and have a few drinks with him, and just BS about normal stuff. Then we’d come up with an awesome secret handshake.

    Wasted money on?
A $40 foot massage in the Orlando airport. I have been here all day, where frappacinos meets micky, the apex of the universe.

    Latest deal?
Free water from Starbucks, hot water in my tea that I refilled 10 times at the airport. (after I bought a frap, obvs)

    Money in purse?
    3 dollars. No joke.

Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100?
Yes, that would pay for my foot massage.

Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock?
No. I can’t buy indiv stocks given the company I work for.

    3. I have $40 in my purse but only because a co-worker paid me back.
    4. I couldn’t skip work today…last day before summer vacation. Still good though because I am now on summer vacation.

    – Vegas. The entire trip.
What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on?
    – Some random groupon go deal for kabobs.
How much money is in your pocket/purse right now?
    – $350 (residual Vegas money. Definitely not profit)
Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100?
    – Depends…do I have to take a vacation day?
Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock?
    – No and No
**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time?
    – I make him take me to top secret places I would have no chance of seeing in my lifetime

    1. I bought some brand new cleats for rugby two days ago, even though I tore my meniscus two months ago and may never actually play rugby again.
    2. The cleats I bought were only $15.99 at Ross. So it was a huge waste of money and a GREAT deal. I guess it all just depends on whether or not I can get back on the pitch again.
    3. $0. Cash is for suckas.
    4. Not a chance. I work for myself, so my boss monitors my days off very closely.
    5. I’m buying some as soon as the market picks up (the rest of my portfolio is getting killed at the moment) or one of the five people who owes me money pays up. Or Sunday morning after my $100 bet (+350) or Tim Bradley vs. Manny Pacqiao pays out. Provided the stock stays in free fall long enough for one of those things to happen.
    6. So many things. To me the most interesting thing about Obama is his time on the campaign trail during 2004 and 2008. And I’d ask him (off the record) what he really thinks of the Tea Party.

    1) The coffee I bought yesterday. First, why I am buying coffee when I got a can at home? Second, half an hour after getting it, work got canceled for the day.
    2) We like candles. :) We had one of those selling parties for PartyLite and got $200 worth of candles for $25.
    3) Nada. I don’t carry cash as a rule, since cash and my wallet quickly part ways.
4)My work day is over, so yeah. :) But the nature of my job is such that I can’t leave without a replacement.
5)Nope. In fact, while I’ve been adding funds, I haven’t actually invested anything in 2 months. I’m getting a better return with it just sitting there. As for question 2, no. Mostly because I only do mutual fund investing. And also because it just doesn’t sound like a good investment.
6)I’m horrible around new people. I’d probably just listen.

    1) Last thing I wasted money on – I’d have to say that it would be… probably dining out at a restaurant, not exciting but I try not to waste money.
    2) Last great deal: Definitely my dryer I posted about this week! I got a $1,289 dryer for $540!
    3) $26 cash, and I only have that much because I sold my old dryer for $25 2 days ago. (I never have more than $40 to $60 on me and it takes months to spend it)
    4) Nope, have some important stuff to finish up at work at the time I wrote this (yesterday on my lunch break)
    5) Nope, although I probably did indirectly through mutual funds.
    6) I would…probably just try to learn as much as possible from him. He’s had to have done something right to become PotUS right?

What was the last thing you wasted money on? Well, maybe its not ‘wasted’, but my son’s 6th Birthday party is tomorrow and I have blown a TON of money on that….probably approaching $500, and that isn’t including gifts…That’s balloons, cake, decorations, food, pop, beer/wine for the parents, etc. It’s a Transformers theme and we are having about 50 people over. I am trying to tell myself that the memories of his happy childhood are worth it…he just better remember!
What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on? I joined BJs yesterday. It’s usually $50/year. I paid $40 for 14 months. So, it wasn’t a huge savings, but since I was joining anyway, I was happy I came at a good time.
How much money is in your pocket/purse right now? About $140. I don’t usually have that much in my purse, but it’s to pick up the food tomorrow for the party.
Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100? Nope…but luckily I have a maternity leave coming up in 6 weeks. CAN’T WAIT!
Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock? No, but I have the money sitting in my Ameritrade account waiting to pounce when it gets to where I want it.
**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time? I would just want to drink a beer and BS. I would probably ask him alot about his relationship with Michelle and his daughters. No matter your politics, I think it would be hard to deny that they seem to have a wonderful marriage, are very down to earth and committed to their family first and foremost. I would like some advice!

I was just thinking about my comment and how I paid $40 for BJs, and I had to chuckle. I’m sure alot of guys would think $40 for anything called BJs would be a pretty good deal.

Sorry, though I am a 35 year old woman and mother, I often have the sense of humor of a 19 year old frat boy.

    1. Alarm clock I bought from a streetside vendor in Asia. The damn thing stopped working after a few days. Cost me $2, but a dollar is a dollar. ;)

    2. A Samsonite luggage. Original price was $480, but I only got it for $131. yeah.. :)

    3. $210 and some coins

    4. Hmm.. my boss requires me to give him updates everyday so I’m not sure.. ;)

    5. Didn’t buy.. not sure if I’ll buy..

    6. I’ll ask him to help me clean up the garage. :P

    1) What was the last thing you wasted money on? A pack of Twizzlers…ha

    2) What was the last thing you got a great DEAL on? A dress I bought this weekend. I got a 10$ online coupon and the dress was 50% off….ended up spending 15$ total on the dress.

    3) How much money is in your pocket/purse right now? $2.15. I hardly ever carry cash.

    4) Would you skip work for the rest of the day if I gave you $100? Yes, I can call out sick AND get 100$, why not?!?! ;-)

    5) Did you buy Facebook stock? Are you going to buy any Facebook stock? Nope.

**BONUS** Barack Obama walks into your room and tells you you’ve got 1 hour to do whatever you want with him – how do you spend that time? Got me.

I think this may be my favorite 5 For Friday yet – I thoroughly enjoyed your answers :) Esp. the Obama one, haha… y’all are creative! And surprisingly not ONE of you guys picked up Facebook stock – that shocks me for some reason?

Now for my long list of replies :)

    @Jon B – 12 cinnamon buns for $1.00??? HEAVEN!
@amy – I like your last purchase, that’s awesome :) Dare I ask you for a pic of one?
    @Michelle – I miss vacation days :(
@Alexa – Sadly your lottery wins are a LOT better than mine have been lately, haha… pretty sad, eh?
@Marilyn – Hahahaha.. “Barack was here” – I love it! And I’d love to see that flash mob too ;)
@Brian – Hurling??? Nice! You don’t hear that every day :) Maybe you can teach your newborn the sport soon? Haha…
@Mercedes – Overtime! I remember that – was always my favorite cuz of that extra 1/2, way to go! :)
@Erin – Haha… what if your husband said it was okay? ;) (And hope you two had fun at her birthday night!)
@Adam – Tim Ferris came out with a body book too? Man, that guy is good at EVERYTHING! I might have to check it out later too – I loved the 4 Hour Work Week.
@Kaye – Hhahahaha… now THAT is a good use of his time ;) And you could tell everyone it was becuase of his politics, haha… favorite Obama answer so far.
@Eric J. Nisall – DollarVersity/b> – HAH! Would you talk politics on that State of The Union, or just go on about something else? :)
    @
Emmy – A most EXCELLENT new picture in your header indeed! Just checked it out – that’s a great thing to come out of the NYC trip, well done :) Though sorry you had some sucky times :( I had a lot of those too when I lived there before ;)
@Rich Uncle EL – Haha, I like it! You don’t see many guest posts from Obama on any blogs, now do ya? :)
@Matthew Doyle – Ooooh nice score on those khakis! That’s great man… I don’t think I’ve worn kahakis in like 15 years actually, haha… but I do like the way they look on people.
    @Joe @ Retire By 40 – A leash!! Hahhahahaa… oh my.
@Atlantalee – Excellent idea! He does sing well :)
@Jen – You bought a blog you used to read? Or you gave the blogger money? I love the blog market :)
@PB @ EconomicallyHumble.com – Just checked it out :) And learned that there was such a thing as “bet waste removal” services! Who knew?
@Jen – Would you do that with me too, if I ever came to visit? Sounds heavenly :)
@Bryan – It would also be interesting to see if he can even truly do anything about it himself too, ya know? I always feel like they don’t have as much power as people think they do… GREAT answer on buying him lunch though, that WOULD be cool to say! :)
    @Kathy – Haha… so I take it you wouldn’t give him a hug? :)
@LB – Let me know how the book is, okay? I LOVED the movie like crazy, and have to imagine the book is even better, yeah?
@Heather – Woahhhh the last person in the country to not be on Facebook, I’m impressed! ;) (I’m actually considering getting rid of my “real” facebook account, it freaks me out…)
@DebtsnTaxes – What’s MX racing? Like, dirt bikes? Or mountain biking? Sounds fun either way :)
@air15sheena – I’ll admit I had to look up “HNIC” but was proud of myself for taking a pretty close guess at it ;)
@George – Haha… secret handshakes are pretty dope. Congrats on the killer house deal too!
@Kathryn C – For a second there I thought you were gonna put “3) Jump him!” Haha… you like how I just assumed you were attracted to him? ;)
@Jen – I think I’ve seen that Hello Kitty microwave before! Was thinking of getting it for my sister, good deal indeed :)
@HP – You can get to these top secret places all within an hour? I didn’t give you a stealth jet! ;) (sucky to hear about Vegas too, it’s a tricky place indeed)
@Big Dion – I totally agree with this campaign trail being the most fascinating – it’s crazy looking back and seeing how he got from point A to point B! And def. hope your meniscus gets better too, that would blow :( When I miss a soccer game cuz of something minor I freak out – I can’t imagine skipping it for the rest of my life!
@Edward Antrobus III – I think it’s a very smart move for you guys to be putting it in savings for now – at least until you’ve got a hefty stash stored away :)
@Lance@MoneyLife&More – I never even thought about the mutual fund thing… makes me wonder now if I’ve indirectly invested in ’em too!
@Nicole – Hahaha…. oddly enough my mind wandered when you said this line instead: “I was happy I came at a good time.” ;) How does our brains do that on a FINANCE blog?!
@James – Haha, that better be one messy garage! :)
@Kristin – Were those Twizzlers rotten or something? You can never go wrong with those guys! :)

    1. Wasted money on this vending machine…we were out and hungry with no snacks (I’m usually overprepared in that dept) but hey the machine has that popcorn we love and score! it’s the last one…and we put the money in and it did that thing where the bag gets stuck and doesn’t drop so we had to put my last dollar in it to get it out, I know it’s petty and small but it’s that stuff that adds up to big waste, the munchkin thought it was funny tho so maybe I can put it under the “entertainment” budget…

    2. Got a deal on gas. My parental unit loves giving gift cards and needed to buy a bunch for all the graduating kids, and just happened to be visiting so I took her to my local grocery store and swiped my rewards card and got the fuel points – $1.69 a gallon… hello!

    3. Cash all gone, see answer at #1

    4. Now I’m not going to make the same mistake I did reading into the bills/jail question on the billionaire quiz and I’m gonna answer the question as written… SOOOOO yes I would take the day of work cuz I work nights! ;)

    5. My family plays the stock market game and all I hear about is how much money they’ve lost and how easy it was to make a profit pre 9-11, and I find it disgusting and wasteful so No and No to any stock

    6. Love the bonus question… check this out… I would sit him down at brsexy and have him reply to everyone who posted an answer to number six and totally bump up J$’s site, but not being a total saint I would come up with the best way to make money on fiver.com by maybe selling his voice or a personalized outgoing vm message or autograph or pic for something (I have a green screen in my photog setup) oooo oooo oooo and I’d make him autograph every sporting item I have in my house and donate it to all of my local kids clubs teams so they could auction them off AND I get a tax write off to cover all the extra money I make on fiver…. screw the politics stuff… i’m a hustler baby, i just want you to know…

@Marilyn – I so wish I’d wasted my money on that instead!
@Emmy – I’m so sorry your E.S.B. visit wasn’t the best, but I hope you try again in better weather! we thought the views were worth it. I was in NYC over Patty’s day this year and HATED myself for buying the express pass for me and my sis, thinking it was such a waste of money but we had dinner plans afterward… and then I saw the lines and could not believe that we literally were escorted to the front of every single one. I was expecting a separate sort of VIP line – nope. So IMO esp. if it’s a busy holiday, your time is worth the extra $.

    1. Upgraded a flight to first class. It wasn’t completely necessary, but I had a bad foot in a boot and had spent the previous day driving 8 hours round trip to get an emergency passport instead of being on my originally booked flight.
    2. Scored a new pair of athletic shoes on Amazon today for $49.99. Paid around $80 for an identical pair at a shoe store last November.
    3. An emergency $20 in my wallet. I generally don’t carry or pay with cash. I like tracking all of my purchases and find it easier to do with my debit card.
    4. I’d leave for the rest of the day for $20…it wouldn’t take much.
    5. No and no.

Oh man these always make me smile.

    1. Clothes. I bought a dress at an outlet store. It was originally $90, got it for $60. I’m actually returning it this weekend, so it’s not a total waste.
    2. Got a really nice leather purse for $20 at the end of March. I’ve been using it every day and it’s held up well. I’d say that’s a good deal.
    3. Nothing in my pocket. $2 in my purse.
    4. Since I’m over halfway through my day, I’d take the $100!
    5. No and no. Considered it for about 2 minutes when my dad asked me if I was buying it, but then solidified my no.

BONUS: Oh man this would be fun. I’d ask him a ton of “would you rather” questions while drinking White Russians at my favorite bar. And of course, get lots of pics with him.

    1. I wasted money on two beers while watching a concert. $12 a piece just b/c they’re inside a concert venue? Awful. Usually they’re about $5 at a bar.
    2. I used a Groupon to join a local sailing club. I had never been in a sailboat before, and now I know how to sail on my own! Best $30 I’ve spent in a while.
    3. Three bucks and some change.
    4. No. I have nothing to do at my job over the summer, and I’d rather sit here getting paid to do nothing and take time off during the busier times of the year.
    5. No, I knew that IPO was too high, so I didn’t buy. I’m not a fan of their business model, so I don’t think I will buy.
**BONUS** I’m a hardcore Democratic activist, so I’d take the opportunity to talk progressive taxation, ending oil subsidies, single-payer healthcare, comprehensive immigration reform, and national funding for education.
