Happy “No Spend” Memorial Day!

Did you know Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day? After the Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in it? True story.

Anyways, here is everything we’ll be doing today for FREE:

  • Going on lots of walks
  • Playing toys with the baby
  • Lounging around the house
  • Eating peoples’ hot dogs and hamburgers*
  • Drinking people’s beers and wines*
  • Adding exceptional conversation where included
  • Being thankful we live in a damn good country with damn good people defending it!
  • Not logging on to Amazon/any other places which sucks my money soul every time I visit ;)

I think it’ll be a fine day, my friends. And I wish the same for you too!

What will you be doing (or not doing?) on this wonderful holiday? Do you have to work, or can you slack off like the rest of us? I guess *making* money is an acceptable replacement to *spending* it, so I’ll still give you credit if that’s the case for you today ;)

See y’all back here tomorrow! Don’t get too drunk high sleepy from this weekend’s activities – I’ll need your brain working well when I pose a question for you in the morning… Should be a fun one!

*I should probably bring something edible/imbibable to these bbqs, huh? I’ll have to find something in our pantry as to not lose this No Spend Day!

Just another manic Monday here in Canada. Heading to work soon.

Canada is a pretty wonderful country too and we need to work together with our southern neighbour to keep it that way because large parts of the rest of the world are totally messed up financially or they just hate us and want to make our lives as miserable as theirs.

Heading to the Detroit Tigers game today. I think I am doing the opposite of you and having a spend day. Oh well, I only go once or twice a year and it will be a good time. Have fun all!

Also, thank you to all the vets for our freedom. What a gerat country we live in, sometimes I lose track of that.

A baseball game is a great place to be on a day like this :)

A bike ride to my school’s fitness center, maybe take my dog downtown for a walk, watching some baseball, and cleaning, packing, and putting some stuff up on craigslist to get ready for a move. Maybe my no-spent Memorial Day will be a profitable one!

I am trying to save money today on my property taxes. I have a upcoming hearing protesting the huge increase in my property taxes and I am preparing the documentation.

I have protested twice since I bought my house and I was successful once and lost the second time ;-(

I am also very thankful for all of our service members who protect my freedom.

I have to go shopping for a outfit for a wedding that is coming up really fast, I dislike shopping!

Is it hopefully an outfit you can then use again in the future too? Like a black dress or something? That’s what we did for our bridesmaids in our wedding – they could wear any black dress they wanted so it was easier on everybody (we had a huge party) and they didn’t have to waste any money :)

I worked all Sat and Sun on our townhouse getting it ready to rent out so it doesn’t feel much like a three day weekend! However, we will be having a BBQ and pool party today, so that puts us in the right frame of mind. We’ll be celebrating with my dad, a military vet, so that’s cool too!

Traditionally, memorial day is the beginning of summer – BBQ and all the goodies. I wonder how many folks remember and realize what this day means to our freedom and way of life.

I think a lot of people do. Even if they don’t say it out loud a lot.

Sounds like a great no spend day for you guys! :)

We had a BBQ on Saturday and went to a BBQ yesterday. Today W has work and I’m just sitting at home catching up on my side hustles.

We celebrated yesterday actually. We had the cookout at our place but we had people bring food. We just provided the hotdogs and hamburgers. Spent $20 for the whole party.

Congrats on a no spend day! I believe I did the exact opposite and am having a spend day…well not today only…a spend weekend! Money has unfortunately been flying out the door the last three days, but we’re hoping to recoup it all in the long term! Bought a new car, a Prius V so hopefully the gas savings will help. And we had to do all the stuff that goes along with buying a new car, adjusting car insurance (lowered the premium by switching), returning the leased car etc etc. The sad thing is we bought the car Saturday, and found a ding on it today already! Most likely from someone else’ car door.
