Giveaway #2: The Side Hustle Journal

side hustle journal inside

This journal is a whole other creation, and one that centers around side hustles which I’ve never seen merged together before?! In fact, this one is so new that it just came off a successful stint on Kickstarter and is now finishing up production!

(They had over 650 backers and raised $13,595 to bring it to life, pretty cool… You can still see the Kickstarter page here if you want: The Side Hustle Journal: Turning 9 to 5’ers to Entrepreneurs)

So what is a “Side Hustle Journal”?

The Side Hustle Journal is a tool to take your idea from concept to cash flow, no matter how busy you are. The journal isn’t simply a daily planner, it includes systems designed specifically for side hustlers. The systems built into the journal will teach you how to:

  • Hack your busy schedule to unlock time
  • Break down the process of starting or scaling a business into bite-sized chunks
  • Only focus on what’s important and forget the rest
  • Expedite the process through consistent micro goal setting
  • And do all this while increasing your performance at your day job

These are the foundational objectives of The Molehill System™, which lives inside The Side Hustle Journal. This is the tool to take you to the next level whether you don’t have an idea or if you are already on the path to side hustle success – and every stage in-between.

You can learn more about this journal here: The Side Hustle Journal. (They go for $31.97, but if you use discount code “JMONEY” you’ll get 15% off)

side hustle journal collage

Here’s how to win them!

I only have one each so you’ll have to decide *which* of them you want the most (you can’t win both – sorry!), but once you pick your favorite here’s what to do:

  1. Make sure you’re signed up to our newsletter! Where we send these blog posts via email right to your inbox each week: sign up here (if you’re seeing this in email, you’re already signed up ;))
  2. Answer the question relating to the journal you want:

For the Mindful Budgeting Planner – what’s the one area of your budget you struggle with the most?

For the Hustle Journal – what side hustle are you thinking of starting, or have already started, that you’re hoping this helps you with?

And that’s it! Leave your answers in the comments below, or by replying back if you’re seeing this in email/social/etc. Giveaway ends next Friday the 12th, at midnight, and then we’ll announce the winners shortly thereafter.

And whether you win it or not, don’t let it stop you from going after those sexy budgets/hustles in this new year! Action always gets you further than dreaming!

Good luck guys… And big thanks again to Cait and Ryan for feeding our obsessions over here :)

UPDATE: Giveaway now over! Will be announcing the winners here shortly (Friday). Stay tuned!

The side hustle journal would be amazing for keeping me organized. I’m starting pop up produce markets in Chicago food deserts this month. The first one will be in 15 days. The side hustle journal will help me manage all of my contacts, hunting people down, suppliers, and the long to do list to pull it off. Super excited about increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables in underserved areas. I usually don’t enter giveaways but this is a good one.

I would love to win the side-hustle journal – I have what I describe as a “healthy” side hustle as a photographer on top of my full-time job as an instructional designer. My goal is to develop this into a side-hustle that gives me travel opportunities and makes $7,000 in net this year, all of which would go to our Emergency Fund (Goal for that is 20K by the end of the year) until we have it fully funded. After we have our EF funded any side hustle money is mine to play with!

For the Mindful Budgeting Planner – what’s the one area of your budget you struggle with the most? I struggle with tracking expenses and staying anywhere close to a budget. We have a lot of expenses, some very under control, but others like food are a free for all. I always preferred paper and pen vs personal capital for budgeting but have gotten lazy about tracking things for the last 6mo or so…

It’s the mindful budgeting planner for me. I try to budget my entertainment money, but I also try to use the credit cards to get points for that spending at restaurants. So while I budget the money, I sometimes find that I’ve overdone it when the credit card bill comes due. So that shorts the money for clothes, or travel. It’s the budgeting, and it’s also managing each account correctly that I want to improve this year.

I currently have 3 side hustles (that I probably could keep better track of with a journal!). Besides my full time job, I also have a massage therapy license that I maintain for weekend and after-work clients which pays about an extra $300-$500 per month. I also paid my way through school by nannying full time and still offer to fill in so the parents can do date nights a few nights a month which is great extra cash for me and lets me stay in touch with the families and kiddos. My third side hustle is doing CAD for my dad’s engineering company. He needed part time help so I watched a bunch of youtube videos to learn the basics and then asked a lot of questions my first few weeks. This hustle doesn’t pay me much in cash but I put almost all my earnings into the company’s retirement plan which also qualifies me for employer contributions at the end of the year. Technically I also assist a few people in cleaning and decorating their houses, but that is inconsistent month to month so I don’t really count it (: Its amazing how much these mini-paychecks add up!

So far in the past two weeks I have found over $2000 to throw at debt – only $47,967.54 left to go. I know I have mindless spending and am trying hard to control that. The most difficult thing I go though is keeping track of where all the money goes….between Timmies and Starbucks….eating out….kid’s activities……the money gets lost. This planner would assist us with keeping track and therefore help us build our budget and adhere to it. This is my resolution…please help me keep it!

Ahhhh the mindful budgeting planner sounds amazing! I am trying so hard to quit impulse shopping- my weaknesses are clothes (which I am pretty good about getting second hand, but still) and household items that seem like “needs” (e.g. my throat is dry I NEED a humidifier for my room or I will die in my sleep of dryness!). I am pretty good about saving but I know I have so much more potential if I can just stop clicking the amazon button! I need to stop the small “on-sale” buys. My dad always told me I am going to nickle and dime my way to the poor house :(

Great giveaway! And Happy New Year!
Since starting to read your blog, I’ve become more and more interested in starting a side hustle, aside from 9-5, and schooling. :) I’ve been reading and educating myself on starting a blog, and an online store. I just need to put my plans into action.

As for my budget, I keep a spreadsheet, I love a complex looking one, with formulas. I know it’s a disease. But often times I get sidetracked, and with a spreadsheet only sometimes it’s difficult to keep track of my spending.

S/N, I truly enjoy the blog it’s very encouraging without being snobbish. Is that a word?

I’d take the Mindful Budgeting Planner, hands down!

What’s the one area of my budget I struggle with the most?

Discretionary spending. Bills, groceries, gas, etc. are on lock. But “spend” money…I fail at almost every month. This was the first month in a long time my fiance and I nearly met our budget. We only went over $7.51!!!

Part of the problem is that I was in denial about budgeting for monthly staple expenses that were spending, thinking “oh, we’ll still have plenty of money!”, so I upped the budget. Not the goal of FIRE, obviously, but my mental health regarding going over budget is a lot better.

Now I shall work on reducing spending, and a “mindful” planner to be more “mindful” of my spending would be “excellent”!

Tough to choose, but I’d go with the side hustle journal. I’ve been mulling around a couple of ideas for years (publishing a kids book, creating an app), but with a day job and a trio of littles to raise, I haven’t had the time to focus on potential side hustles. I could use a tried and true plan to get started!

Cait’s Budget Planner! I have secretly always wanted one, but because I try to curb purchases online I have never gotten one. For me, area I struggle most with is online purchases that match with my value system (ethical, support small business) but are still things I don’t really need (in theory). I would love the Mindful Budgeting planner. I struggle most with my groceries/eating out/household category between eating out too much and not shopping regularly, and the overall amount fluctuates from month to month. Tracking this for a few months will show me how much I am actually spending and hopefully give me a more realistic amount to be budgeting for this category. I also want to save $6000 for grad school this year (6% of the way there!) and would like a visual way to track my goal.

Afterwards I always regret it because I think of all the better things I could have spent it on other than eating food that I’m just gonna process out in a few hours……

This is such a great giveaway, Jay! I’ve been reading your blog since 2015 when I was still based in the Philippines and it has helped me shift my mindset about money and open an investment account.

I’d love to win the Hustle Journal. I just moved to the US last August 2017 and am still processing my green card. My previous lifestyle blog was about the adventures I had back in the Philippines because I never thought I would move here. There was also a death threat I received here from my husband’s crazy ex who stalks us on social media even if all our accounts were set on private so I deleted most of my social media accounts for our safety. That made me lose the following I’ve tried hard to establish in the Philippines.

Last December, I changed it to FromPHtoUSA.com since that is the stage of my life where I am now because I migrated here. There was also this dilemma for me when I was the one trying to move to the US that most of the information about processing a K1 visa was outdated. I’m working on content right now that would help most Filipinos who were in the same boat I was a year ago.

My goal right now from this side hustle is not to earn money but to establish credibility with a whole new audience and use it as a portfolio of what I can offer once I can go job hunting. I graduated from one of the top universities back there and all the companies I worked for were well-known companies, but none of that matters here now because it’s a different ball game.

I am also setting up a website for my husband’s computer repair consultancy. I want to help him take it to the next level this year through his own branding and online space.

Looking forward to what more is in store for your blog. Cheers.

The side-hustle looks very helpful, but I really think I need to get my living budget in line. I will decline to share exactly how many years I’ve failed in this respect, suffice it to say my retirement date will likely be never. But my motto is that it is never too late to improve myself.
Mindful Budgeting is my choice. I struggle with impulse or emotional buys and cannot begin to add up the cost of my bad habit. Hence, the need for Mindful Budgeting. A tool that makes it more fun to be financially responsible.
