Mail In Your Sexy Dollars!

Hey Guys! I wanna do something new and fun over here at Budgets Are Sexy, and I’m hoping you like this idea of mine as much as I do :)

You know how I’m addicted to all types of dollar bills and doodles? Well what if we started collecting them from YOU here on the site, and then we shared them on the blog for everyone to see?! You could send over quotes on the bills, favorite tips you might have, cool designs, whatever you want that shows what money means to you. You can be as creative or not as you want, as long as you put some thought into it and you think we’ll like it ;)

It would only cost you a dollar & a stamp to pretty one up (and no, this is not my attempt of getting free money out of you, haha…) but it would be a cool way to share the love of money with your fellow community members. I’ll even be adding them up to a new wall here in the Budgets Are Sexy Blogger Lounge! I plan on plastering them all around my computer so I’ll be surrounded by my favorite people (and tips!) every day as I sit here and blog to y’all every morning ;) And if you want to give me your autographs along w/ them too, even better. Haha…

Again, here’s all you have to do if you’re interested (or bored at work):

  1. Whip out a clean $1.00 bill
  2. Think of something regarding money you’d like to share with us – could be anything you want, as long as it fits on the dollar.
  3. Doodle/draw/paint it all on there (don’t forget to sign the back so we can credit you!)
  4. And then mail it in to me! Just shoot me a note for the address…

You down? If so, go ahead and get started!  I have no idea how many of you will actually be interested, but I’ll start adding ’em up as soon as they come in :)  And if you’re a blogger, it’s not a bad way to get some exposure to your site too, hint hint.

Time to make you famous!

PS: Feel free to mail anything else over too – my box never gets any love :(

Not to be a downer, but some might frown on defacing money…even if the Wahol style $1s look sweet.

So you just want us to email you a scanned version of our dollar? You’d like this local restaurant. They actually have people doodle on dollars and have them all posted throughout the entire restaurant along with funny license plates and surfboards etc… they probably have a couple thousand dollars on the walls and ceiling rafters…

Congrats on your Plutus Award btw!

Thanks guys! It was your votes that helped me win! Much love to all y’all, from the bottom of my heart :)

@Scott – True true, but since I won’t be putting them into circulation and using them as “art,” hopefully that makes it all ok :) Which reminds me actually – when I was at the Denver Mint yesterday, they had jewelry and other things made of coins! So it can’t be *that* bad right? The Mint plays with money too! Haha…

    It’s actually illegal to deface a dollar bill . . .

Haha, great idea but I’ve always wondered what Andrew Jackson would look like with a moustache. So send me a couple $20s to “look” at.

    Congrats on the award!

How about I take a fake dollar and open it in paint, write stuff on it and then email it over. I am not going to school on MY dollar because I randomly send money off for any cause. Sorry, I love my money that much NOT to send any of it to anyone for free. (Although I did support one charity this year).

Wow, I sound like an ass. I just mean no, I like my money and I had a death in the family and am now at my angry phase, but you can support ME by sending me money for school :)

@J Money – good point. It’s a very hazy area.

I was just in Colorado over the last weekend. Check out the Money Museum in Co. Springs if you’re local ;)

@J. Money — Actually, I think it’s taking them out of circulation that’s the problem. Here’s some legal info. It’s illegal to deface currency “in such a way that it is made unfit for circulation.”

You want some Canadian dollars too? What about Euros? International currency is so much more colorful and sexier. J, email me your address if you want some sexy international currency.

I thought i heard somewhere that sending cash in the mail was illegal. Oh well, i don’t mind breaking the law, as long as nobody gets hurt.

I must admit – you are very creative!

Re: the legality of writing on money as touched upon by Scott, Jen2, Jessica and others:
We’ve been in contact with the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Department of Justice asking for clear answers. So far, nothing concrete to report. Our main concern is the current Move to Amend project that’s selling rubber stamps to people to imprint money as a political protest. Details on our blog at http://www.moneygraffiti.com/wordpress. If you’re interested in this fascinating (to us) topic please comment. And I hope that you’ll share whatever bills you do receive to show off in our galleries. Bold move, J$! – R.A.

Um, how about you mail ME the dollar bill and then I will deface it illegally, them send it back to you in a self-addresses envelope? Lol

Asking each person for a dollar could mean you receive thousands!! Would you claim it on your taxes? ;)

Oh wow… I wish I had my collection from years ago. When I was younger, I used to draw all kinds of things on dollar bills. I never really saved them though. But I definitely got some funny looks when they were used….

Wow, Serena’s legal mind is mind-blowing. Wish some of our bureacrats were as astute and forthcoming. I do sense a trend that some of your readers are willing to PhotoShop their dollars (no harm, no foul) and send you .jpgs; this might draw some great creative work while skirting the illegality issue.

Thanks for all the comments/tips/legal advice/etc :) If I ever get a call or anything from them, I’ll let you know… and ofcourse behave myself again. Though I still don’t think this is exactly illegal yet… For now we just enjoy everyone’s creativity!

@Chris – I have a new passion for Mustaches actually – I’m totally creating some for my fellow dead presidents ;)
    @LB – Haha… how about, OK :)
@Scott – Ack! I would have loved to! Didn’t get a chance to go there, but I DID get a chance to check out the Denver Mint – INCREDIBLY fascinating! So much so that I got in trouble for talking too much during the tour – I got too excited :)
@Jessica @ Faith Permeating Life – Hmmm… okay, so I’ll post them up on the site first, and then drop them back into circulation :) That would do the trick, right?
@Tino – That would be cool! Never heard of the “no cash in mail” rule though? People do that millions of times a day – we’d be in deep doo doo!
@Elena @ Financial Security – Cool!!! Excited to see it! :)
@richard @ moneygraffiti – I wonder how large the operations have to be until they start dabbling in shutting ’em down? Or maybe they’ve already reached out but the organization refuses to listen? I’ll tell you this much – if I ever get a call/letter from them, you can bet your sweet ass I’ll be listening to what they say :)
@Serena @ Thrift Diving – HAH! Great question actually – hadn’t thought about that… guess I’d have to then?
@DebtKiller – Someone out there must be enjoying them now! :)
