Happy Library Lovers’ Day!

What up, my Valentines!!

If today’s a day you typically can’t stand, you might be pleased to know that it’s shared with another – perhaps even more special – day that’s celebrated as well:

“Library Lovers’ Day!”

A real day! (says the internet)

And what better day to celebrate today amongst us frugal nerds ?! :)

So before giving the finger to all those giddy lovers out there, try channeling that energy towards spreading the word on this special LIBRARY day instead. Since it obviously needs as much help as it can get for having to compete with VALENTINE’S DAY!! Who does that??! (Australia apparently)

More on Library Lovers’ Day from LibrarianshipStudies.com:

Library Lovers’ Day is celebrated on the 14th of February each year to honor libraries, librarians, book lovers, and lovers of libraries… [It] provides an opportunity to celebrate those who love and support libraries and to remind decision makers how loved and cherished libraries are by the entire community. Not everyone receives flowers on Valentine’s Day but everyone is welcome at their library.”

That last part needs to be a bumper sticker, lol…

So to help celebrate LL Day today, I thought you might want to pass around these nifty little Valentine’s Cards to those special librarians or book enthusiasts in your lives… What better way to beat V Day than to use their own ideas and infiltrate from within! ;)

Other ways to celebrate your library today:

— VISIT ONE!!

— Donate to one: American Library Association

— Volunteer at one

— Take a date to one (if you must celebrate V-Day)

— Date a librarian! ;)

— Follow my favorite Twitter handle: @FakeLibStats (“A librarian sighs an average of 430 times per work day“, “The average librarian’s cardigan conceals two pencils, one flask, and one emergency kitten”, “76% of librarians quietly sing the alphabet song to themselves when shelving”)

— Share any one of these amazing  library memes:

V Day might be winning at the moment, but with your help we can change the tide!

Always remember,

A librarian can bring you back the right one.

Our library also has an affiliation with hoopla where you can download ebooks, audio books, etc., that they don’t have in the library. I imagine most libraries would have something similar but just wanted to share in case someone has never heard of it.

Yes! Good mention! My wife is always checking out books electronically :) Though I personally prefer *physical* these days after so much time on the internet…

Just FYI: if your local library doesn’t have Hoopla, you might be able to get it through another library. I live in the Dallas area but have a Houston Public Library digital card so I can use their Hoopla. They also have music and movies – all free!

Happy Valentines! Just wanted to share how Finnish tax agency is wooing us taxpayers on a Valentine’s day (a weak link to libraries, they do run on tax money:)

In Finnish, but this is basically a Valentine’s treat for generating your TAX FRIEND NAME -of course you want one! Mine is “pehmoinen hankintameno-olettama”, which translates to “soft&fuzzy base assumption of the original stock purchase price” used when taxing sold stocks.

I also love that part when they read the renewed tax code aloud in a youtube ASMR video.

I’ve had the excellent fortune to make some librarian friends in my life (…went to a Calexico show with two of them last week). They’re the very best. This is fantastic — thanks for posting all this goodness, neatly researched and organized!

As a librarian, I approve this message! :-)

Thank you for posting this… it’s amazing to me how many people don’t know about the resources that their local library offers. Even the fact that we have DVDs surprises some people!

Cool. We’re heading to the library after school today so I’ll see if they’re doing anything special.
    I love our library.

I Love Libraries! I Use My Library! Libraries Matter!

Following his career as an Army officer, my father went back for a Masters in Library Science, becoming a university librarian. It was always fun to stop by his office when I was in school. I nicknamed him the “head book check-er-out-er” just for kicks.

I have never heard of this very important holiday, so thank you for bringing it to my attention. The cards and memes you posted are so much fun. Libraries are seriously the best life hack for anyone who cares about their personal finances. Besides actual physical books with the intoxicating paper smell, libraries are full of so many great resources that many people do not know about. My local library has board games, puzzles, tablets, and movies to check out for free and even gives out free passes to local museums. They also host free musicians next to the fireplace and hold naturalization ceremonies. How cool is that?

SUPER cool!!! Didn’t know they lend out board games or free museum passes – makes me love them even more :)

I am not a big library person. Luckily for my kids’ sake, my wife is. I tag along to carry the box with 50 books in it that she checks out for them.
