The Community Fund 💙

Morning!

So I woke up REALLY wanting to do something for people, and while I haven’t figured out *exactly* what that is yet, I DO know that it’ll require $$$ and I should probably start fundraising for it…

BUT – instead of throwing out a plea to y’all the old fashioned way here, I thought we’d do something more fun and try turning this blog INTO A STORE for the day and see if you’re interested in “buying”  anything from my house ;)

**Where every dollar made goes 100% into this new fund of ours!**

Tentatively called “The Community Fund” for now until we come up with something a bit more clever, lol… (any ideas?)

So if you’ve ever wanted to support a project of mine without even knowing what it is or *who* we’re helping yet, now’s your chance to find out! Haha… Though you can rest assured, of course, that all the money raised will be put towards those who need it more than we do :)

In fact, if you know of someone who could desperately use our help right now, let me know and we’ll consider them for one of the first people we rally behind!

Now here’s everything we have for sale today!

First person to say they want it gets it, except for the very last item which we’ll be doing a silent auction for ;) And remember – 100% of all the profits go right to our new fund!

Thanks everyone!

Excited to see how much we can raise for this thing!!

$1 bill uncut sheet

$1 bill uncut sheet - back

Similar to the $2 bill uncut sheet, you’ll get 32 *one* dollar bills here issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, and comes with 1988 dates. This piece also measures approx. 24.5″ by 21″ and would look good hung up in the office or next to that $2 uncut sheet if you’re really trying to be a baller ;)

Though FYI there’s a little discoloring on some of the edges of this one, along with a minor tear in the upper left corner that’s barely visible.

Want to be transported back into the 80s? Here are the games included, in order of the best to the worst ;)

Item #4. The Icon Package ;)

(Donation: $40 – including shipping)

vintage mags and poster

Two icons I used to adore back in the day + an icon I actually adore today (Kathy Ireland), haha… She’s a BEAST at business! And super engaged on Twitter too if you’re interested in following her: @KathyIreland.

With this package you get two Michael Jackson items – a 1988 World Tour Program and a Tuf Mag Magazine from 1984 – both picked up off Ebay in the early 2000s (some of my first purchases – hah!), two Britney Spears magazines dated 2000 and 2003 that was gifted to me when I used to be obsessed with her, and then one nifty vintage poster of Kathy Ireland courtesy of Jim from Route to Retire in thanks for helping him liquidate an inherited coin collection :)

Fun fact: Kathy actually tweeted us when I shared the poster around the community, haha…

Item #5: “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” Book

(Donation: $30 – including shipping)

**Picked up by 5AM Joel! Thanks dude!!**

rich dad poor dad

The last book I picked up at Goodwill for y’all before the quarantining! And a classic that people either love or love to hate, haha… But as one of the very first books I ever read about $$$/biz/etc, I’ll always have fond memories of it as it really got me to start *thinking* differently about everything which of course is an important first step.

Here’s a quick summary from Amazon:

Rich Dad Poor Dad is Robert’s story of growing up with two dads — his real father and the father of his best friend, his rich dad — and the ways in which both men shaped his thoughts about money and investing. The book explodes the myth that you need to earn a high income to be rich and explains the difference between working for money and having your money work for you.

Item #6. “That’s A Fact Jack!” Book

(Donation: $20 – including shipping)

**Now gone!! Thank you for your generous over-donation, Peter!!**

thats a fact jack

You might recall this one from our post on utterly useless facts about money last month! Which was only a fraction of the factoids included in this, so if you enjoy that type of stuff this is the next book you need in your collection :)

Here’s a sampling of the stats for anyone who missed it:

  • Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on television
  • Men who kiss their wives goodbye in the morning earn higher salaries than men who don’t
  • Humans swallow a quart of snot a day
  • There are more Subway sandwich shops in Manhattan than there are actual subway stations
  • The word “salary” comes from Latin salarium, meaning “payment in salt.” Roman soldiers were paid partially in salt, a highly valuable commodity at the time.

Item #7. An Original (Autographed) Business Card!

(Donation: HIGHEST BIDDER!!)

j money business card

We save the best for last! One of my very first business cards I used to hand out circa 2010! :) Most of them were numbered in the early days so I could see how many I gave out, but seems this one got skipped over and never made it into anyone’s hands…

Until now! :) Hit me with the most you’re willing to donate for it and the person with the highest bid at the end of the week will win it! Along with my undying affection for helping me get this fund going!!

j @ budgets are sexy (dot) com

(That’s also my Paypal address if anyone wants to donate a few dollars to the fund as well. 100% will go directly towards helping people!)

Thanks guys!

Will be fun to see what happens with all this!

The J. Store is now open – tell all your friends!! ;)

This is a great idea. Our family is thinking of ways to help those that are home without pay or still working, despite the health risks. We are paying my husband’s and son’s barber once a month through Venmo, sending our house cleaner a check every other week, and ordering take out from our favorite local family owned restaurant once a week. We figured as long as we’re being paid to work from home, we can afford to support the people we would otherwise be paying for services. The best part, we are still saving tons of money.
